[Request] Recommend a good English series or KDrama that has English subtitle

Please recommend a good series, either it's sci-fi, horror, documentary or Kdrama that has English subtitle. I'm working at home, non-voice account, graveyard shift but CST so I needed to stay awake for at least 8-9 hrs, 5 nights a week. Maybe you can also indicate some highlights that makes you interested with the story.

Pretty much every kdrama has English subs

Only the Kdramas on Netflix or something like that has English subs.

And they're only a very small portion of all the Korean TV shows.

Most Korean tv shows don't get to be translated into foreign languages and shown in other countries because they're too Korean.... meaning, you have to be Korean and understand the Korean language, nuances, history, culture, current affairs, etc, etc, to understand and enjoy those Korean shows.

That's why usually only Korean romance or crime shows/movies are translated into other languages and put on Netflix.

Coz you don't necessarily need to understand the Korean language or culture or history to watch romance or crimes shows/movies.

The only kdrama I’ve ever struggled to find English subs for is Tarot. There’s a whole world of kdramas out there outside of Netflix. I don’t understand why you’d think the ones outside of Netflix aren’t getting translated.

I really enjoyed Our Unwritten Seoul recently, although every episode is very emotional. Nice, long episodes too!

The Good Bad Mother was so emotional; the mother and son story touched my heart.

There are two series I’d recommend:

Itaewan Class - the story is compelling and has a guy you root for. It’s better going in blind so I won’t say more

Crash Landing on You - it’s a bizarre premise for a romance drama, but it works. It’s addictive and the cast of soldiers and the storytelling keeps you engaged. I’ve seen 60 year old hardened white guys be brought to tears and completely enthralled by this drama.

Highly recommend checking both out at some point!

Thanks for this! Will check Itaewon Class since I already finished watching CLOY. Yeah, definitely agree that it's addictive, and somehow found myself smiling after watching the last episode.

Kdramas:

Twenty Five Twenty One (coming of age dramedy featuring possibly the best fictional FL character and friendship squad around!).

Prison Playbook (slice of life dramedy).

Reply 1988 (coming of age, slice of life).

Hospital Playlist (slice of life).

Mr Sunshine (epic historical masterpiece).

Bloodhounds (action thriller).

Signal (crime thriller).

Revenant (folklore mystery thriller/light horror on Disney+ or Hulu).

Way to many kdrama on Netflix to name so I’ll include my top picks:

The Glory - dark revenge - schoolgirl who was viciously bullied as a teen takes revenge on the group who bullied her as adults. Very intense! Very satisfying in parts will stay with you.

My Name - action/recenge - girl who watched her dad murdered hunts for his killer by joining a gang to find him. Again similar dark and intense themes.

Vincenzo - A mafia member returns to Korea to reclaim his property but has to deal with the hilarious band of residents living inside and a cruel ceo who wants the building himself. This is a very simplified synopsis as it has hella layers to it! 🤣 great villain, some good twists in the story and the ML is phenomenal.

Strong girl bong Soon - girl has super strength powers passed down her family for generations, decides to use them to help people. Dreams of being a games designer and ends up working for a games company ceo as his bodyguard at first. Great ML and FL pairing and comedy/action throughout with a criminal subplot running through. One of my all time favourites!

Would recommend the kdramarecommends Reddit if you want anything in particular 👍

Chef and My Fridge is a Korean variety cooking show on Netflix. Good food, good-natured banter, interesting guests. Better if you've watched Culinary Class Wars prior to starting the series, because the chefs will be known to you, but it's not a prerequisite.

Sorry it didn't quite fit your criteria; I was too excited to recommend it and should've read more carefully what you were looking for. That said, glad you liked it, too!!
