Ryanair cabin bag sizer before security?
No bag is the size it says it is on the label. I think mine fits. I’ve measured it. But I also know that in the Michael O’Leary universe a centimetre is whatever the hell size he decides it is.
Minded to get the metro up to the airport to check mine before I pack, if it’s a day I’ll already hit the zone C limit.
Can I? Yes, this is mad, but I hate gate charges and have too much spare time first thing in the morning.

What a great rock and roll day out I’m going to have. Maybe I’ll buy an expensive Greggs, start drinking straight after breakfast and pretend I’m on holiday already.

Easiest way to avoid any issue is make sure you’re priority, but don’t join the priority queue. Hang back until just before boarding call and make sure you’re at the back of the queue. They cannot hold the plane up and won’t, so they’ll not even check so long as it looks the right size.

Haha, do people still think this works? I feel like I get most of my gate bags when the queue has gone down and I have time to check people out properly

Seemed to work for me although I didn't do it on purpose. My family got on with bags that were definitely too big because they were late getting to the gate and the crew was in a rush to get everyone on board.

I mean always worked for me. I’ve seen people be pulled and by the time they’ve had a massive argument with the gate staff, got their phones out, held up the queue, then I’ve not even had my bags looked at. The cabin doors have closed pretty much as soon as I’ve got on board and we’ve taken off 10 minutes later, on time.

If its not costing you anything, and you have time to spare, do it.
Bear in mind though that this enthusiastic "do eeet!" is coming from a girl who decided to take a random bus ride to a different town this morning to see how long it would actually take! (In fairness, I have an appointment there next week)

You are the kind of person who is my kind of person. I didn’t ask ‘is it worth doing’, just ‘can I do it’! I hope it was a fun bus ride and you got to see a horse or something

Funny you mentioned horses lol.
Went through the shopping centre to see how long it took to go that route (I was going to have to wait for the bus home anyway, so I may as well) and they had these giant lego fairy tale sculptures set up for a kids' event - one of which was Cinderella's carriage with two white horses!
Also saw a modern VW Beetle decorated like Herbie, which I thought my Dad might like, so I have a bunch of photos of it :)

Unless you're taking the piss with the size then you'll be fine.
Last time I flew with them I didn't see one person getting checked. If it's a busy flight and they're on a tight schedule they'll just herd you through.

The NCL staff don’t care. Others do though. I’ve seen many many people stopped in Alicante and made to either pay or leave their bags.

Unless you’re carrying a very obviously oversized bag, or are one of the last to board on a busy flight they don’t really care if you can make it fit somewhere safe. If you do fall foul of the above criteria then you’ll get ambushed and have the luggage checked in beneath you with the cargo instead.
Of all the airlines, Ryanair are honestly the most laid back about cabin baggage despite the reputation. Eastern Airways on the other hand, everyone gets their cabin bag weighed and measured twice before you even see your plane. If you dare to exceed by a single gram or centimetre you’ll be met with hostility and straight up aggression from their staff at a level that would make anyone else looking think they’ve just watched you commit murder in front of them!

I've done something like this before only at the time I was concerned about weight. I just went to a desk that was closed and used it. Nobody said anything to me and even if they did I think it's perfectly reasonable to say that you're concerned that your bag is too big and want to check it while you have time to repack.

Love this. I mean it’s right there! Here’s to making the most of living on top of an airport x

It’s a wheelie one. That’s why I’m doing it. I’ve nearly bought 2 that say they’re 20cm deep and when you measure they absolutely aren’t. Maddening

I have a north face backpack that wouldn't actually fully fit into the luggage measurer but as it's on my back they've never questioned it

We flew Ryanair last weekend and nobody checked on the way out, they did on the way back though (Poland).
We inadvertently worked out a little hack that worked for us at least. Find the person with a bag that's clearly pushing it size-wise and queue behind them. When they're busy checking their bag, walk on past and board.

Can vouch for your hack. I did the same on the way back from Dublin. Guy in front had an oversized backpack, and my Ryanair-sized bag, albeit bulging and wouldn't fit in the sizer, sailed straight through without anyone noticing!

If you can squeeze it in, they don’t usually care. In fact my bag hasn’t been the right size many times and I haven’t been questioned.
As long as you’re not taking the poss with the size, I think you’re usually fine. Wheeled suitcases are the ones they mostly go after in my experience
