Where are the homeless supposed to go?

Cities have been cracking down on homeless people so they can’t have encampments or stay on sidewalks. At the same time usually the shelters are full. So those who are unable to get into a shelter, where are they supposed to go?

So let me get this right, you can’t help homeless people if they like cricket instead of the NFL, tamales over bland roast beef, have gendered nouns in their language or a different non-Christian belief system?

THOSE are the things that prevent you from helping someone have a place to live? For giving someone a hand when they are down on their luck? When they are too ill to maintain a job to pay rent?

And you want me to engage in critical thinking? GTFOH

Can you think a little more, Christ lol, you’re seriously just not thinking and it’s a huge issue 😂

They may not know how any of our systems work. Every group of people has different needs / wants, also different political beliefs. They have no families / friends to rely on in times of trouble. What if they don’t even speak the fucking language 😂

I’m not an asshole, my friends entire career revolves around fixing this

Seems like you’d rather get angry than actually think about the problems they face. Very useful

So simple now? See, we need to think. You’re fucked

So you think all the homeless are illiterate ESL foreigners without families or friends?

What are the different needs/wants or political beliefs that would stop someone from accessing housing?

This is very interesting because I’ve actually worked with housing difficult to house people and organizations.

The vast majority of the unhoused have suffered significant childhood or early adult trauma. Add another layer is the number of unhoused that have had significant experience in the foster care system. Those are the unhoused.

I’m not angry at the unhoused. I’m gobsmacked by your lack of empathy and outright stupidity.

Give them a place to stay. Build it with public money. Give them a fucking chance. The majority will go on to house themselves and be ‘productive’ members of society. Some will be chronically difficult to house. True.

But should we not help 85 children do well in school is the other 15 are catastrophically stupid? Of course not. Same with housing.

Rule 3 - Follow Reddiquette: Be polite and respectful in your exchanges. NSQ is supposed to be a helpful resource for confused redditors. Civil disagreements can happen, but insults should not. Personal attacks, slurs, bigotry, etc. are not permitted at any time.
