Honestly, based on the track record, when he says 2 weeks I read 2 days

He had to move cruse missile subs into position and other things
26
u/Scared_Astronaut9377 Jun 22 '25
Doesn't seem so to me. Bombing started right after he reportedly agreed with Erdogan to meet the Iranian president in Turkey but the Iranian supreme leader blocked any meetings. Also, I think the USA is capable of doing such a strike at any time even from its soil, just with more risk and operational overhead.

The stupid tin foil theory (which is almost always correct in this admin) is that Trump actually meant 2 weeks (which actually means never), but someone else couldn't keep it in their pants anymore and gave the order in his name, now Trump is trying to act like his admin isn't doing random WW3 shit without his permission. Not saying that is what happened, but it's just dumb enough to be plausible

Just check out China for that dystopian future.
An article about some Chinese lady being flagged for jaywalking, back in 2018: https://www.bbc.com/news/technology-46357004
The problem was her face was on an advertisement on the side of a bus. The surveillance cameras' facial recognition system matched the face with hers and flagged her for the crime.
18
u/Gentle_Capybara Astros II and Osorio for Ukraine Jun 22 '25
It can be a lot worse than that. Some businesses are already talking about AI crime predicting. And IRL we are already using face scanning - but without any enhancements or AI manipulation. Shit will get fucked when an opportunistic tech bro presents to boomer politicians some technology that makes blurry images magically perfect, like any CSI Miami episode. Because 70 year olds are the most impressionable people, and they are the ones in power.

People being aware of the crap ICE is doing is the whole point of doing it. They don't have the manpower or budget to actually do a bunch of deportations, so they are trying to create an atmosphere of fear that random people might be targeted and not get due process to get people to leave on their own.
This works. It also gets legal visitors to leave to. Which is, uh, very bad for the US.
60
u/EmotioneelKlootzak Jun 22 '25
The issue with forcing regime change from outside is you usually end up with something worse in the process, and even when you don't, the new regime tends to get labeled as "collaborationist" and immediately overthrown by a bunch of home grown revolutionaries (and usually extremists) the second the installing power's attention turns elsewhere.
Iran's probably just going to end up as Syria 2.0.

48
u/TricobaltGaming Jun 22 '25
Regime change needs to come from within if anyone wants a meaningful change in culture there. University towns in iran already were socially much more progressive than the US implies. The government didn't enforce relevant laws there because people would just ignore it in protest.
All external military regime change will do is create a power vacuum, the same kind that allowed al qaeda and ISIS to form.

They should take that up with the UN, they are the ones who made the report about the 60% enriched funnistones.
40
u/TIYATA Jun 22 '25
Also the IAEA, which detected traces of uranium enriched to nearly 84% at Fordow back in 2023:
22
u/Scaevus Jun 22 '25
Both things can be true. Iran wasn't making a nuclear weapon, but they wanted to have enriched uranium so they can threaten their enemies with the potential to make a nuclear weapon.
This would give Iran's enemies all of the incentives for attacking, and provide no deterrence. It's a breathtakingly stupid strategy that could not have possibly worked out.

You know what really freaks me out?
I think we may find out iran had an actual, functional nuclear weapon. They may have even launched one at isreal that got intercepted.
Things escalated very quickly after the isreali missile attack.
1) Isreal gets attacked.
2) Air force 1 was barking out encrypted codes on nuclear channels.
3) Nuclear sniffers were deployed.
4) pizza index went off the charts.
5) An earthquake was detected in Iran (which can be a sign of underground nuclear testing).
6) We bombed them very promptly.

I don't think they had a deliverable nuke - if Israel was subject to attempted nuclear attack I think they'd be announcing it as widely as possible to justify their behaviour. I do think they managed a test device, and I think they still have a dirty bomb of some kind as a last resort weapon. Iran has survived by being much more calculated with their behaviour up til this point and they aren't stupid, they most likely saw the writing on the wall and smuggled as much material out as they could.

I believe this as well. And, because itâs equally possible that on one hand, we donât want to freak out the public by letting them know it exists and weâre going in anyway, and on the other hand, we could forever forge the needed justification, itâs possible the public wonât know the truth in our lifetime.

Iran is a sponsor of Russian terrorism in Ukraine. Iran is a sponsor of Hamas terrorism Israel. Iran is a sponsor of Yemeni terrorism of the boats.
The only thing Iran needs a nuclear weapon for is further terrorism.
Trump very simply asked Iran to stop enriching uranium. And also stop touching the boats. Iran did not comply.
This only gets out of hand if Iran continues to touch the boats. In that case, this could go on for a while and the Ayatollah's regime will most likely end.

Here's the thing. While it's mostly not known to those who don't understand nuclear material, there are no civilian uses for 60% or higher enriched uranium which is what these facilities make (if Iran isnt lying about how capable their equipment actually is). The only possible use is for nuclear weapons. So while everyone can go and yell about US this US that, as much as I dislike the US and how they operate and especially the current administration, as well as they are pretty much being the reason Iran is the way it is in the first place. There is valid pretense for destroying the military nuclear capabilities of a nation who's entire reason for existence is murdering every single person on the planet who isn't them and doesn't follow their exact version of their religion. The middle east is a massive mess yes. The west is a big part of the reason it's such a mess yes. However there were peace processes going on all the time between countries and every single time it gets close, some madman does something to torpedo it all and it all literally blows up again.

Guys, how is my plan?
load a Zelenskyy-class transport truck with cinderblocks and barely fissile material
build a "lab" in the middle of nowhere
bomb it
mini nuke goes off
"look guys they actually had it this time"

Iâm not sure if itâll result to anything, at least for right now. My stepfather was an F-15 pilot in the 90s and bombed military targets in Iraq during the Clinton administration. Those were just staging missions for the larger operation that would come to fruition in 2003, but still Iraq didnât do much as a result of those bombings. I imagine these bombings in Iran are of a similar nature or a show of force

Man I should be getting ready to go to school, as it clearly is 2003 and not 2025.

Congratulations Iran! You managed to make the President of Peace lose his callsign.

Why run the risk of letting them have nukes if we can just run a bomb train over em instead?

Doesnât this warrant an impeachment or at least a strong opposition response? Given that trump basically didnât consult the congress or anything? Or am I stupid? I might be stupid.
