News & current events With allies like these who needs enemies?

Post image

Norway's probably the only small country in the world secure enough to withstand trade-ending tariffs from the US. It absolutely needs to start America-proofing its economy

It is quite disrespectful of Graham to say this when this is a decision based on the fund's ethical guidelines which are anchored in the parlament by representatives elected by the Norwegian people.

I’m sorry for my country’s lack of accountability and ethics. I am very much trying to become one of you for this very reason.

I’m with you on this! I want a quiet life where I can just send my kid to school and know he will come home alive and not shot. Where I can just leave some anxiety in the US, and not have to worry about what psychos are making the rules and not having to live by them as they destroy our alliances and insult our allies thereby further endangering us when major catastrophes happen as they are bound to with idiots at the helm.

This is it. Deep down, people just want safety, stability and predictability. We do have some reactionary and populistic politicians and parties in Norway as well, but I would argue that our differences and political discussions are just small tweaks to a very stable and safe society. Luckily, things don’t get turned upside down every time the opposition wins the election.

Tell that to your politicians, there are some who think the tax breaks for the rich while cutting social programs model is something to emulate. I moved here for family and no way do I want this to be anything like the USA.

I wasnt talking about our politicians, I was talking to the american that sees Norway as a way to ascape fixing his country not to bring that bs over here. We are coming up on a vote in 10 days, so we know very well what is happening in our country, we dont need more of you over here

No, everybody is a nazi when someone does a literal NAZI SALUTE at the presidents inauguration and every republican claps.

Clear legal framework

  • The fund is governed by the Government Pension Fund Act and detailed investment mandates from the Ministry of Finance.
  • These rules limit how the fund can be used, ensuring it supports long-term national wealth rather than short-term political projects.
  • The government and parliament decide the fund’s overall strategy (asset allocation, ethical guidelines, withdrawal limits).
  • Norges Bank Investment Management (NBIM), part of the central bank, makes all individual investment decisions without political interference.
  • All investments are published online.
  • The fund releases quarterly and annual reports, and independent auditors check the results.
  • This high level of openness makes it harder for politicians to secretly misuse the fund.
  • An independent ethics council advises on excluding companies that violate human rights, damage the environment, or engage in corruption.
  • This ensures investment choices follow long-term ethical principles rather than political favoritism.

Yeah, right on. He’s an ass swipe anyways

This is incorrect. The parliament recently had a debate to change the ethical guidelines to avoid investing in Israeli companies. That might right or wrong, but at the end of the day the fund is politically managed to a certain degree. It is fair to criticise the Norwegian government due to this.

I don't think the parliment have changed the etichal guidelines. My understanding is that the exclusions of these companies came about because an additional review was conducted of these companies.

Please link to the source if you have other information.

The point is that there has been significant political pressure. The result is banning a US company which does not sell any military equipment.

I still don't think I'm incorrect, because the decisions was made accordring to the ethical guidelines of the fund.

The fund has most likely held a position in Caterpillar for decades. Only now, after a political debate and pressure, was it sanctioned.

criticizing yes, go ahead, threatening because you are butthurt someone decided to not invest in an american company, now thats just childish.

All they do there is pass an executive decision or some bullshit, that becomes the law, how the fuck would anyone call that a democracy?

1

u/YouKnowMyName2006 1d ago

Caterpillar doesn’t sell weapons though. It’s absurd decision of Norway to target them. Israel has had Caterpillar bulldozers for decades.
