I must say I pretty strongly disagree 😅

Also was disappointed by it.
I remember it being better at Jack London. Too many good pizzas around here to go back. Staff folk were nice though.

That pic: undercooked crust, not enough cheese, not enough sauce, hardly any pepperoni. Hard pass.

I went a couple times in JLS and don't recall anything noteworthy. That's not good or bad, but this photo sure as hell doesn't make to second guess my indifference. It looks like a middling ass pizza. That's fine eats at a bar, but it's not destination worthy.

yeah. i’ve never understood this method of toppings in the center with a 3” dry crust around it. it seems all too common with this style. you practically have to fold the slice four times to get any moisture

You've got both Zachary's and Casa Barotti nearby and you chose this place for pizza?

I appreciate you shouting out your favorite restaurants, but I will not be delivering that pizza to my house. Pizza Ponte for life.

Great spot! But in a different area than I was in. Also doesn't have much space to accommodate as many people as we had in our party. Also! It's fun to try other places.

Ohhhh when you say “delivers” you mean to actually put the pizza on your table. Not like — doordash. Got cha.

We were just there and were pretty disappointed. The pizza was good enough but paid $17.00 for a salad that was all lettuce with a couple paltry toppings. They also offer two burgers, but no veggie burger options, which is surprising in this day and age.
Ultimately, we liked the thin crust flavor of the pizza. But we left hungry, sadly.

Bay Area loves a mediocre pizza

Folks don't know what they don't know. I really do think the classic NYC slice is the standard. Rotten City Pizza was pretty good, but they closed. There is also Cheeseboard in Berkeley.

Nooo when did they close?? I loved their oversized slices. Hopefully they re open in a more convenient location.

Not sure. Maybe last year? Google it.
And, yes, I'd love it if they could reopen somewhere. The location is probably what got them.

That rotten city white pie was the best I had found in the area. If anyone knows a comparable option please share!

Cheese curds was the best thing on the JLS menu, hopefully they still serve them.

Just drove by and it was packed for Saturday lunch. They had a guy set up in a corner of the patio who appeared to be making / selling fresh pizzas to passers by. Great vibe overall, looked very fun and lively.
I was a big fan of Forge in JLS. And the fact that they had to leave JLS but chose to give Oakland another shot (albeit in Rockridge), IMO speaks to their character and makes me want to support them more.

It’s packed today because it’s rockridge’s annual street festival. I don’t think it’s regularly so lively.

Forge isn’t nearly as good as “thin” style (which is thick but less than half thickness as deep-dish) from Zachary’s, up the road. On Mondays, Zachary’s has 15% off if you say VIP15. YW.
Two Detroit-style pizza joints are also far superior: Joyride and Square Pie Guys. The Joyride pop-up at Gilman Brewing in Berkeley was excellent. They still operate a handful of places across SF. SPG is much better eaten there; not advisable as UberEats or DDash.

I haven’t liked the JL location.
Most recently went to A16 and the pizza was soggy in the middle. Which was a huge disappointment.

To be fair A16 serves Neapolitan style pizza which has a slightly wet middle when compared to NYC style. In Naples it’s meant to be eaten with fork and knife. But here you can just fold a slice lengthwise to eat.

Ours was soggy. Like grossly wet.
It isn’t like I haven’t had Neopolitan pizza everywhere including in Naples. So this was beyond what would have been considered acceptable.
Hell I have even eaten at A16s Tokyo location and it didn’t have that problem.
