discussion Can we seriously stop shamming and harassing the director of S3?

Before anyone decides to be a smartass, this is not a post about the CM, PV, or even the staff as a whole. Just how we’re publicly treating the director and how it’s going to affect things.

People have NO and ZERO faith in this director. It’s somewhat reasonable, but to go out of your way to make a video shaming a director for hentai that he was associated in nearly 20 years ago is sickening. People are going above and beyond to shame him into the ground. Do we want a good season 3 or not? People are ONLY mentioning the hentai. Forget the Dr stone and other anime scripting, the connections, the multiple non-ecchi anime he’s directed… right?

Tell me this, would you be motivated and encouraged to make a work of art if everyone that knew you were doing it consistently shamed you about your past works? Probably not, right? This is the EXACT reason why the director chose to keep his identity under wraps. It’s for this EXACT reason. He was afraid people would be disappointed that he was chosen. And boy was he right. Look how you people are treating him?

This isn’t about what he did, it’s what he can do. This is about One Punch Man and its reputation. For the sake of what you want, a good animated season, please treat him better just this once. There’s a month to go, you guys can do it.

He's pushing himself to his limits just to deliver Season 3. Even now, these "fans" are criticising him even though Season 3 hasn't even been released yet. Is it because he's an unknown animator and not popular, or is it because he took this project in a "mediocre studio"? I'm having mixed emotions right now, and I can't really give a proper response. Speaking on behalf of you all, I hope OPM season 3 will be much better than season 2.

discussion Why was Homeless Emperor just a basic human?

Post image

Every other monster that God gave his gift to was not just some dbz character, but also mutated to a pretty extreme degree. Yet Homeless Emperor, despite having the Dbz Ki blast, was still basically in a mortals body. Does the strength of the monster comes from sort inner will. Kind of like the monster cells?

discussion To this day, I still think it's insane that Flashy is physically stronger and more durable than Darkshine in the manga.

It's kinda ludicrous.

Not only did Flashy get knocked out later with significantly more blows from a far stronger PS, but he got up sooner than Darkshine.

I'll tell you my opinion. Im onboard with the side which is happy that this change exists but probably not in a way you think, le me explain...

Im happy because makers of the anime are changing stuff as they please. The director and CDs sat down and decided this change and theres nothing wrong in it. cmon guys, in every single anime adaptation the designs are slightly changed or modified, its nothing new. You are changing the medium of expression, so certain changes need to be made that works in that new medium. The worst kind of adaptation is the one who is slave to its source, artists working on the anime are also 'artists'. They can have preferences in their craft

I think what fans are doing is just caring about their preference and disregarding everything else. "The design is bad because I dont like it" instead of like "im not the biggest fan of this but i respect their choice"

I feel like genos relationship with saitama should have changed after this realization i feel like nothing changed for genos or any character development. Has anyone else mentioned anything about this panel?

discussion So that scene where Saitama stopped caring about anything, including the earth, just to hurt Garou, is it a character betrayal or in line with his arc?

Post image
3.2k Upvotes

I think it's.....not great. It implies that Saitama doesn't really care much for other people, to the point where his friends dying is enough to make him not care about anyone else even for a few seconds.

It makes him look kinda..... inwardly weak?

It just seems kinda antithetical to the first chapter where he risked his life to save a kid he doesn't know, and here he would've killed every child on earth if Blast didn't stop him.

It's hard to describe. This combined with him allowing Cosmic Garou to kill everyone in the first place just makes him look like a horrendous hero. And then he proceeded to get over it mid-fight and go back to blank egg mode just made it all feel hollow.

Then all of it erased anyway so the character arc meant nothing.

Genos is the only one who has data of the original timeline and he told Saitama "good job".

discussion What’s your favorite display of Saitamas power?

I think I’d have to go with the Serious Punch Squared

Both because it’s arguably the greatest overall display of power and because it’s Saitama at his angriest with near murderous intent.

Such a damn perfect ending to their fight, thematically and contextually. Cosmic Garou was awesome and I Saitama's space fart etc was top class, not to mention that one gif they animated of them fighting in the nuclear fallout.

But fuck I miss this

Which do the rest of you reckon was better

discussion Director of S3 response to being revealed

Post image

Hello everyone, nice to meet you. I'm Shimpei Nagai, the director of One Punch Man Season 3. I completely understand everyone's reactions. Please calm down and hear me out, if you would. I'll explain why I was chosen, and it might be a bit long, but please listen. I've been a freelancer from the beginning, and that hasn't changed. At 37, I wrapped up my apprenticeship and stepped into the anime world with a work called "Hiiro no Kakera." I learned how to create hybrid animation with 3D in a project called "Aquarion Logos," and after that, I switched to a 3D company for just one year, contributing to image boards for "Altered Carbon" and such. My goal was always Manglobe. I honed my skills on Episode 6 of "GANGSTA." and "Samurai Flamenco," among others. I was aiming for a hybrid of 3DCG and hand-drawn animation, but as everyone knows, Manglobe ended up closing down. In the midst of that, J.C.Staff became a long-term partner, commissioning me for storyboards and direction throughout the year. However, since I'm relatively unknown and don't have standout achievements as an animator, I thought it might give a bad impression, so I asked to keep it under wraps. Then, when the consultation for One Punch Man Season 3 came up, I focused on incorporating a new workflow—something I discussed in CGWORLD, bridging 3D and 2D workflows—to squeeze out even one more second of production time. I sincerely apologize for keeping quiet about this. The team is giving it our all on site. I can't discuss details about the production, but I'm open to answering what I can within limits.

discussion This is the 3D animation JCstaff possesses. Why are people complaining for S3?

1.8k Upvotes

This isn’t a cherry picked clip either. This is CONSISTENTLY how the 3D looked in season 2. JCstaff has some of the best 3D animation in anime PERIOD.

I’ve seen some absurd videos and discussions about people complaining about the confirmed use of 3D and 2D animation that will be present in season 3. Theyre complaining about how bad it’s going to be… even though we haven’t at all seen it. I’ve even seen some batshit crazy talk that there’ll even be 2.5D animation?? Like where are you people getting this from? (2.5D is animation like DBS SUPER HERO)

Please for the love of all that is unholy… stop complaining about something that is the ONLY thing if nothing that JC does well, and something that we haven’t even seen yet. People are legitimately just hating to hate. It’s not me coping or trying to lure you into delusion, this is genuinely the only thing JCstaff can ace and you people are saying it’s gonna be bad with NO reason to say it.

So if these guys all decided they wanted to and put in the effort which one could attract the most women? Money and status aside who has the best looks, personality and charisma to be able to have the most amount of women attracted to them?

This is nothing new. We are just a bit disappointed because we already invested on the previous works. But look at bright side.. its not catching up in webcomic and it will not pressure ONE to make updated webcomic chapter. More importantly, it also served as a quality poofing.

discussion What was the point having Cosmic Garou kill Genos and everyone else?

Post image
1.6k Upvotes

It was like the story suddenly switched up it's genres to punish Saitama's nature, and that doesn't work in a story where Saitama basically punched a meteor in such a way that it killed zero people.

Suddenly adding a grim-dark consequence to someone who's essentially a Looney Tunes character doesn't work.

On top of that they had Saitama go back to being bored and non-chalant later in the fight which is even more out of character.

Saitama isn't person that's just numb to the deaths of everyone around him. He absolutely should've visibly upset and locked in for the rest of the fight. It felt like emotional whiplash to go from child-murder back to dopey Saitama and serious farts.

The tone was almost salvaged by the story implying that Tareo was a similar existence to Garou that Genos was to Saitama (they aren't really, but that was the impetus for Garou trying to fix it, so whatever) but the story fucked that up too by having Saitama go right back to snarky and bored, so that kills a lot of the emotional weight.

Then Garou sends Saitama back in time and Saitama calls Garou's martial arts "cool" which is weird because to Saitama, Garou is essentially a child-murderer and he doesn't really know much about God or possession.

Then Saitama loses all his memories and the story goes back to 100% goofy, so it felt like all of that was for nothing since Garou would've lost regardless of what "God" did, and Saitama didn't change a bit.

What the fuck even did that accomplish, writing-wise?

We already knew "God" was a cunt, we already knew Garou cared about Tareo and we already knew Saitama was busted.

Nothing really changed.

Definitely felt like ONE is afraid to kill of the main characters because TTM was literally turned into a human pretzel and later fed to gums then came back a little chubby, I’m not trying to hate or anything but it just felt strange.

Post image

I know we barely know anything about them, but byakku and Genma have already shown they can survive named attacks from blast and empty void. Could they take a punch from saitama like this? Many monsters have survived a punch before

discussion Re reading the Garou fight, It's crazy how terrifying Saitama can be.

Post image
3.8k Upvotes

I know Saitama is invincible but man, panel by panel, you just realize how HOPELESS Garou is.

The most insane part is how DURABLE Saitama is. Dude literally tanked HIS OWN SERIOUS Punches, amped with Garou's Martial arts expertise hitting his "supposed" weak points.

Is Saitama's durability and endurance > his attack potency?

When will we get another fight like this?

No I’m not being horny, I’m just curious if this movement is actually something you can do without stretching using your hands, maybe you need to be real elastic and “trained” like Gwen who’s a dancer?

discussion A testament to King's character Spoiler

Post image
5.0k Upvotes

I just want to take a second to admire what's going on in this picture. Tatsumaku is laying across King's lap, being covered by Fubuki using King's jacket, whilst she herself is being covered by both King's shirt, which he has taken off to drape over her, and also his arms, embracing her in whatever protection he can provide.

King, who despite all the memes, is powerless. Who aside from his fearsome appearance is an otherwise ordinary human, who is in all other occasions a self admitted coward, is here giving his life to protect these two girls, futile though it may be.

A lot is made of Mumen Rider, and rightly so, but aside from the memes about King, I don't think people often appreciate just how kind he is, he may not show it the way the way Mumen Rider does, but his heart is just as pure.
