Attitudes towards germans?
Hi everyone,
My husband and I are planning a trip to Opole, since his father’s side of the family has roots there. We know that historically relations in that region were once very good, with a shared Silesian identity. Then came the Red Army, a lot of hostility towards Germans, and later on people from there were often not fully accepted in Germany either (because they were “from Poland”). So for many, it was just something that got forgotten or silenced.
So, my question is: how are attitudes today if someone with family roots there wants to visit, learn about the place and their roots?
We’re in Sweden and his mother is not german nor polish whatsoever so it’s just for learning about the family history.
