Ovarian Cancer patient Pain near IP port site

I was diagnosed with stage 3 HS ovarian cancer October 2024. I had debulking surgery November 2024 and then IV and IP port chemo from December to April 2025. In May of 2025, my oncologist removed the IP port after a clear CT scan and my CA125 was “3”. In the past few days, my port site has been giving me some twinges - nothing overly painful. It’s just a persistent slight ache. I booked my bucket list trip to Italy with my oncologist’s blessing and I’m scheduled to leave in a week for 16 days. Has anyone else had issues with their port site a few months after the removal? Scar tissue acting up possibly? I’m debating trying to get an appointment with my oncologist before I go, or wait until I get back if it’s still an issue. Thoughts?

Definitely send a message to your oncologist office and tell them what you're feeling. Maybe send a photo that may be nothing but you want to keep them up-to-date, especially if you're planning to be out of the country.

Thank you for your input. Before my diagnosis, I hadn’t taken a sick day in 20 years and was generally healthy. Now, I start second guessing every twinge. Not sure if it’s stress, too much exercising, picking up and carrying around my granddaughter, or something more serious… I left a message with my oncologist

Scar tissue makes sense, but given the trip, you are absolutely correct in reaching out. And I too wonder about every little twinge. Enjoy your trip!

Yes the same thing happened to me when my IP port was removed. I had imaging done and it was just a hematoma that eventually healed and resolved. You had a foreign object in your body for many months and now it has been removed. So the site on your ribcage can be sore. Try not to worry and enjoy your trip!
