Will likely drive up there later today (from OR) since weather looks good for tomorrow. Are there areas near the trailhead (or at the trailhead) where I could pull my car out of the way to sleep in it, etc?

First time doing this hike... sounds like there are areas where its difficult to know where the trail is. How tricky is it to stay on route?

Any cell coverage there? I am guessing no, but worth asking.

I’m hoping to plan a trip to north cascades sometime next year, wondering if anyone knows what months are best. We just finished our first camping trip there and it was very very smokey during the trip so we didn’t actually get to do any of the things we planned. I would hope to go while there is a lower chance of smoke and while the popular trails aren’t packed with snow. Thanks everybody!

I’m planning a hiking trip through the Pacific Northwest (Washington & Oregon) in early October and I want to make sure I’m prepared for the weather. I’ll be doing a mix of day hikes in places like Olympic, Rainier, and North Cascades, so I’m expecting some rain and temperature swings.

For those of you who’ve hiked the PNW (or hikes with similar climates) around that time: What clothing layers have you found absolutely necessary or super useful? Any brands or specific pieces you’d recommend for staying comfortable (especially in wet conditions)? Anything you wish you had packed (or that you didn’t need at all)?

Trying to balance staying dry and warm without overpacking, so real-world advice is appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Looking for any information people hiking near the Enchantments/in the Seattle area might have about my brother. He went hiking from the Snow Lake trailhead over the weekend and we haven't heard from him since. We suspect he made it back to the Seattle Airport but have no confirmation and are all in a state of panic. Please let me know if you've seen or talked to him! Thanks.

Visited Washington a few weeks ago and went to the North Cascades to do the Maple Pass Loop hike. Immediately want to go back to North Cascades already!!!

I have been planning on hiking up South Sister in Oregon on Wednesday for my birthday....but rain and thunderstorms are now in the forecast.

Entered the daily lottery for Half Dome in Yosemite...but just found out I did not get it.

Looked at the weather for Vesper, but its calling for foggy conditions.

Looking for some sort of great hike to do that day....just can't figure out where to go. Looking for a 9-14 (ish) mile hike, I don't mind a 4,000-5,000' elevation gain...just want amazing views, etc. I recently did Cascade/Sahale, so that one is out.

Bonus points if I could see mountain goats, etc.

This summer I've hiked the Three Sisters, Broken Top, Jefferson, and a few other (Oregon volcanos). Mostly solo. I've been toying with the idea of linking the Three Sisters to celebrate. Everything I've read suggests that the ideal ski direction is north-to-south (for obvious reasons), but the ideal summer/hiking/running direction is south-to-north? I'm curious why?

I haven't done the section between South and Middle, so maybe therein lies the secret, but in my mind I'd like to tackle North first - while I'm most fresh - then Middle - which is quite easy - and finishing with South - knowing that when I'm tired it'll just be a long, mindless trot down to Devil's Lake. But others don't seem to do it this way so I suspect it must have something to do with the section between South and Middle.

I will be bringing neither rope, harness, nor ice tools... though I may consider micro spikes (I didn't use them on North and Middle but postulate I could have moved a bit faster over Collier had I had them). And maybe I'll throw in Broken Top as well... but that might totally change my logistics so we shall see...

Hello! I’m looking to do a solo 4+ night backpacking trip within the next month or so (before some spots start getting snow) and I was wondering if people have any recommendations? I’m in Portland, so hopefully something within 4-5 hours of here. I’ve recently done the Timberline and spent a week in the Wallowas.

I’ve been looking into the Wonderland Trail in the last week of September for 7 nights, but I’m still stuck on finding a permit for 2 nights. Maybe something in Olympic NP?

What're the chances of getting a spot for Saturday night after driving up from Portland this point in the season?

How bad is it out there right now? Was hoping to do a trip to the north cascades but looks like it’s horrible smoke wise with all the nearby fires. I looked into Olympic and even some trails near hurricane tide were being impacted by the smoke too. Is that the case for most of Olympic? And I guess is Rainier any better? Thanks
