galleryFirst time hiking in Northern WA and was blown away by the beauty here. Relatively easy to to moderate hike but well worth it for the views.

Del Campo Peak hazy views
galleryFrom 8/27. Got a small(ish) camera to bring along on my hikes and learn some basic photography. First trip with it up Del Campo and took these (except #5). Fun scramble and the view was great even with all the haze.

Timberline Trail Question
Planning to do this hike this month ( I’m off of work all of sept)
It’s about a 5-6 hour drive away from me. I have all my gear ready to go, any reservations I need to make? Where should I park?
Thanks!

Similar Hikes to Mt St Helens
Trying this again because my last post was not super clear.
I am looking for SIMILAR HIKES TO MT ST HELENS. Planning to summit next summer and want to do training hikes that mimic the elevation (or terrain, though not sure much can mimic that ash)
TIA :)

Discover pass question
Bought a day pass last year and plans fell thru. I didn't date it since I hadn't gone. If I date it can I still use it tomorrow?

Sleeping at MSH trailhead
I have a permit in a few weeks and am trying to decide if I should sleep in my car at the trailhead the night before or just drive there super early. What do you all do? What time is optimal to start hiking? I was thinking 4am?

Peak identification help! (Form Artist Point)
I am wondering if anybody can help me identify this peak. It looks very wide and vertical. I shot this photo while driving down from Artist Point.

I lost my phone on the cascades pass hike
I lost my phone on the cascades pass hike this afternoon. I went up to sahale arm and then i’m pretty sure dropped it somewhere between cascade pass and the trailhead on the way down. I think it’s either on the switchbacks or at the pass. By the time i realized it was gone it was dark. it’s a blue iphone 14
i fly out of seattle tomorrow and unfortunately won’t have enough time to go back to the trail. what’s my best course of action here?
posting from my cousins account since i lost my phone

Fiancée and I hiked to Dewey Lake today
galleryPros: beautiful hike with wonderful weather. Our first time in the Mount Rainier National Park. (Find the black bear in the blurry third photo)
Cons: the number of people just absolutely disregarding signage, littering, bringing dogs on a trail marked no pets… just disappointing to see.

Trail of Ten Falls
Hi, I am wanting to got to the Trail of Ten Falls in silver lake tmrw, I read up that the falls weren’t as strong in the later summer months, I doubt it is that big of a deal and they will still be nice, just wanna make sure that it is still worth it this late in summer. Thanks!
Also, any tips/things I should look for are also appreciated!

Climbers Bivouac Road?
Hi all, I have a permit to hike Mt St Helens this upcoming Friday, and wondering about road conditions getting to the TH. I have a 4Runner, but considering taking my 2WD Prius to save on gas... Would a Prius be fine with the road up getting to the TH? I have heard mixed reviews on the road conditions there... wondering if I need the clearance of my 4Runner or not. Thanks!

Alternatives to spider gap- Buck creek pass
Per my other post, if the trail opening (from the pomas fire) is delayed, is there an alternative and similar trail that anyone recommends? I liked the isolation, mileage, 3-4 days, non kept trail, views.
October 15th is when I plan to be in Washington hiking. Sucks because this trail really seemed perfect.
On top of my own googling, thank you a lot for any info/recs. Hope I’m not cluttering the sub

Leave a Public Comment About the Roadless Rule
regulations.govHey everyone! I didn’t see a post about the public comment for the revoking of the Roadless Rule, so I figured I’d leave this link here (if I missed a post about it, apologies, happy to take this down). Not sure how much good this will do, but I figured it’s worth a shot! Public comment remains open until September 20. Hopefully we can put a stop to it like Senator Lee’s public land sell-off from a few months ago.

How are people without camping permits identified and fined?
Met someone camping without a permit. I know this because the ranger there (who checked my permit) pointed him out to me, and I talked to the guy and he admitted to it. He was supposed to hike out that day since he didn't have any camping permit whatsoever, but of course he didn't and he just camped for the night anyway. Possibly 2 nights. So what happens to this guy? I doubt he carried ID on the trail since no one does (this was deep in the backcountry). How would the ranger know whom to fine if there's no ID and he could just lie about his name? Can people just effectively camp permitless with impunity? Did I pay $26 for a permit, wait in line at the ranger station for nothing?
Given the time and inconvenience of getting to the ranger station, it seems like paying a modest fine is probably worthwhile for many trips.

Where exactly are these places and can I hike to them?
gallery2 and #3 are the same place, one is just zoomed in more.
Taken from the plane approaching Seattle from straight east. Somewhere in the Cascades.
They are just breathtaking in color. Does anyone know what lakes they are and whether they are reachable by hike? I'm just going to venture a guess that if they are reachable, it's a pretty demanding hike that I'm not ready for LOL
PS I just love flying back home and seeing what an unbelievably beautiful part of the world we live in
