Review Max Mustard review
I played over 100 vr games by now, but not a single 3rd person vr game. The idea of a 3rd person vr game just made no sense to me.
Fortunately the internet and you awesome people forced me to try this genre, with all the talk of how awesome Astro Bot Vr is.
So I decided to play the 3 most talked about 3rd person action platformer games on psvr2 right now.
To see my reviews and first impressions of Moss Book 1 and 2, click on the links right here:

Alright, now with that all out of the way, let’s talk about Max Mustard.
First thing I noticed about Max Mustard is that how dynamic the whole game feels. It is mainly because of the camera placement. You are a lot closer to Max and moving along with him in the game world. I am definitely missing the overall story book presentation and voice acting from Moss, but I am definitely enjoying the new perspective.
Max Mustard is a Mario game in Vr in every shape and form. Specifically Super Mario Odyssey. Each levels are wildly different from one another and every level has a unique theme to them. The goal is to find these hidden pokemon like creatures and rescue them, to unlock the next level. It may sound simple, but it gets super addictive. Also as a player, you are super involved in the game. You get different gadgets/guns in almost every level and the game gives you super fun ways to use them. The adaptive triggers and headset rumble were implemented really well here. Every time Max gets hurt, head rumble goes off, feels perfect!
In conclusion, I thought I would get tired of this genre in Vr by the time I was done with Moss Book 2 and won’t enjoy Max mustard as much. Well I am happy to report that I was completely wrong. Max Mustard felt like a completely different and a fresh experience. this is another must play game in Psvr2 library. 9/10
Only point I took out was cause of the lack of Voice Acting and each levels could have been a little longer.

How long did it take you to beat it? I've been waiting on a sale for this for months.

I would say 8-10 hours to 100% if you take in the sights, but someone could do it in 6-7 hours as well.

And you'll keep waiting on that. Unfortunately, the devs all but shut down in February, and haven't had a sale since. They did permanently reduce the price of the game on Steam though, don't know about PS.

If you want another VR platformer, look up Mixture. You control a bug person while you yourself are a disembodied being that can mix various chemicals and use them in combat and platforming. Haven't played much, but it's pretty fun. Physical version comes with some origami butterflies.

Thank you for the recommendation, I will definitely look into it.

Thanks for the write up! Glad that you liked the game. I haven't played it yet, and I know that it's unfair to compare it with Astro Bot which is imo the best game of PSVR1 and a mind blowing masterpiece that would instantly convert millions of players to VR if they only tried... but if it can reproduce even just a little of its magic then it's a must have for any PSVR2 player.

Can’t speak on how awesome Astro bot vr is as o never owned a psvr1, but I assure you, this game has a lot of magic of its own. You definitely need to try this. Unlike any other game in psvr2 library.

AstroBot IS better than Max Mustard, but MM is still preeeeetty damn close to being as good as AstroBot. It's the closest any other 3rd person VR game has come.

Yes, I'm sure that it's great and will play it for sure. But man, if you have the chance to get a cheap PSVR1 you really owe yourself to play Astro Bot. This game is a fucking masterpiece and the use of VR and the gameplay ideas they got are just brilliant. I know how everybody loves the new Astro Bot on PS5, and I finished it at 100% with my daughter, but it felt super underwhelming for me compared to the PSVR1 game, even if it has more contents. The overall experience is not remotely on par imo.

Wait. When did max mustard become a FPS game?

You control Max in 3rd person, but you also do actions in first person in some levels using various gadgets.

Since when is 3rd person VR a thing?

You actually make a great point about 3rd person games in VR. Astro Bot is probably one of the best VR games to date (RIP), and yet developers are obsessed with this idea that VR MUST be first person (and apparently must be a zombie shooter?).
But yeah, Max Mustard is awesome too.
