If you didn't like being the bitch and doing all the chores then the fire department is definitely not the place you want to go. They love that shit. They'll give you some line about how it builds character or shows that you're willing to do the grunt work or whatever crap they come up with. Instead of everyone doing their fair share of work they make the boot do all the bullshit to prove whatever it is they feel needs to be proven. You might find a fire department that isn't the most strict at that sort of thing, but I haven't seen one that doesn't do it.

If you want to work somewhere that hasn't matured past college fraternity crap, be my guest. Those aren't the sort of professionals I wish to surround myself with.

Oooof this is so true. Honestly such a fucking shame because the progression is truly so noble. Being there on people’s worst days to help is such a special place in time. I wish the culture would evolve
