Do you happen to be using the Ariadne persona? Its innate skill Beast Weaver will kneecap your damage for the rest of the fight

It's so very permanent that not even debuff removal works on it. And since it's Joker, you can't test getting knocked out and being revived.

Beast Weaver is an amazing finishing move, but a terrible opener.

Actually, it's been tested. If the party member who uses it is knocked and revived, the damage debuff remains. If they are swapped out and back in (from party swap) then the debuff ends, though.

Of course, that doesn't matter since only joker can use it

If you used beast weaver and failed to end the battle, joker's damage is reduced to 10% for the remaining battle.Β

If you’re talking about the really low magic damage, I’m pretty sure this boss in particular is supposed to be dealt with by knocking them down and using physical attacks, so they nerfed magical ones.

Personally, I don't believe the damage of Beast Weaver is high enough to warrant the debilitating, permanent, Dekunda-proof 90% attack debuff, on the one party member who cannot be switched out mid-battle.

Personally, I feel like it should have been something like a unique version of Miracle Punch that has Assault Dive's base damage. Since it would make redundant the actual Miracle Punch in both Ariadne and Ariadne Picaro's base sets, I feel like it would have been appropriate for her to have an all-target skill like Swift Strike (multi-hit, has a 10% Critical rate instead of something like maybe ~3%) in its place.

It's accurate to the source game however, after Labrys' Beast super her damage is neutered for the rest of the round. It's a neat way to represent it, but it probably should've ended after a few rounds in P5.

I see. I haven't played Arena, so my knowledge of that is limited.

Something else that I believe sucks about Beast Weaver: its Critical rate was reportedly decent at 22% in base P5, but was gimped to a paltry 5% in Royal...is something I would say, if not for the Technical reworks plus Ryuji's Raging Temper trait (and its potential endgame upgrade), which can further improve the damage potential.

a combination of low damage roll, beast weaver, and the royal-exclusive glitch that makes enemies with Magic 28 decrease everyone's magic

I'm not sure why it does that, it happened to me a couple times
