Buying Who's buying a new TV on black friday...

...and wants to sell me their old one? Moved to Philly recently and I need to buy a TV but I don't want to buy a new one. Hoping to get someone else's secondhand.

Checkout free cycle, groups are limited geographically but there's tons of stuff given away, ive helped carry a 75" plasma heavy af tv across center city that was given away.

Oh totally I love freecycle! That’s cool that a tv that size was for free

Hey, if the other commenter doesn't want it, 40" is about the perfect size for me

40” might be on the smaller size for me, but I will consider it and let you know!

Wait until the day after Christmas, when everyone on Craigslist is getting rid of their old ones.

TVs are insanely cheap brand new. You could buy a 40 in TV new for $100

So they should be even cheaper than that second hand yeah?

This guy Black Fridays. I would honestly drive around and see which models people just ditch - I have two smaller TVs acquired this way (30" plus)

I always get my no big deal tvs from best buy opened return section.

You can find some pretty good stuff at a good price

I have a 35 in Phillips that I don’t need anymore. Just decided to sell it actually.

And for anyone thinking of buying a new smart TV:

A study published on Sept 10, 2024 details the behavior of smart TVs.

The researchers checked the network output coming from the TV's internet connection and reverse engineered the data that was being collected and sent by the TVs.

The testing was limited to two brands: Samsung and LG (though this is not to exclude other brands from the same behavior).

They found that the TV's are collecting screenshots of the content being displayed -- even when being used through HDMI (when hooked to DVD, blu-ray, external boxes like Apple TV, game systems, computers, etc), or when cast from a phone or tablet.

They are snapping these screenshots 100 times a second (LG) and twice a second (Samsung). The screenshots are then hashed and sent to the company servers for use in content recognition (most likely guess anyway).

Statistically, The best prices aren't on Black Friday. They are two weekends before Christmas. Wait it out.

Screen goes black after about 20 seconds powered on. I don't have it on me anymore.

I’m selling a SAMSUNG 70” 4K LED for $500. It’s got a small line on the bottom but it does not get in the way of any viewings.
