Madgwick responds to one star hygiene rating

Post image

The News picked up on the one star hygiene rating:

https://www.portsmouth.co.uk/lifestyle/food-and-drink/restaurant-says-latest-hygiene-rating-is-reflection-of-unfortunate-circumstances-5303536

Strudwick came up with a load of dog ate my homework excuses in the article, but of course Madgwick has taken to his favourite platform to claim it's all victimisation. Does he have to be such an insufferable squinny about everything? If the restaurant had been to standard you wouldn't get a one star, simple. For a wannabe hard right strongman he's very fragile.

The fact that the chef was absent does not mitigate the fact the kitchens a shit hole.

Environmental health can inspect whenever they like. That’s why if you have any sort of pride in the establishment you run, you show due diligence, and are compliant with the food safety act.

Only commenting to point out that if they are close, without any member of staff on site, then the inspection couldn't have taken place because there wasnt anybody to let them in - they also cannot force entry for this reason.

Youre right though, any self respecting chef wouldnt dare leave a kitchen in a shittip. Its embarrassing. It does make me wonder if the inspection actually took place though.

EHO officers can indeed force entry without the owners being present if they deem the risk to the public is severe enough.

2

u/Southern_Kaeos 3d ago

To which would require a warrant, and that wouldn't happen if theyd have tried to enter for an inspection first

3

u/deepfriedanchovy 3d ago

Aye - I was just saying it is possible. They have powers of entry equal if not greater than the police when it comes to entry, and it’s an offense to block an EHO inspector.

As for whether or not the inspection was actually carried out, I don’t know, but I’ve been a chef for over 20 years and not once have I seen or heard of an authority just randomly lower the food score of a premesis without an inspection.

And to get a 1 star, this isn't like "the KP left a box of blanched pasta in the walk-in over the weekend", 1-star means your kitchen was fucking rotten.

I love the fact he or anyone thinks the council is even remotely joined up enough to coordinate this conspiracy.

4

u/53120123 4d ago

he's even on the council

u/manic47 4d ago

They can be.

I think this cost tax payers where I currently live at least £4 million in an out of court settlement.

The council went to great lengths to keep the settlement secret from councillors too IIRC.

However, what we are talking about here is a straightforward environmental health inspection, which him and his girlfriend have pretty much admitted they weren't up to scratch, she just gives lots of excuses and he goes for the persecution angle. If George thinks he's being persecuted, as a councillor he can go to the head of the department and ask for an explanation. He isn't, so he won't - he'll just chat shit about it online.

As someone who works in a restaurant, at all times the hygiene standards should be 100%. Regardless of what members of staff are in or who is in charge. To get a 1 star, something is going wrong here. You don’t get that score for nothing. Why is this an attack from the council? Because his restaurant did poorly, it was all the council’s fault? Does he not take any responsibility?

u/pompino 4d ago

It's like people who do illegal shit and then complain when the police pull them up isn't it?

u/Davina33 3d ago

A post has just gone up about this on Facebook. There's a photo of his restaurant completely empty on a Friday night. I guess word has got round about his 1 star rating now. Nothing surprises me with him. He is very dishonest.

Love that they’ve scapegoated the junior chef for not knowing the basic food hygiene questions asked by EHO

If they’ve told the junior chef that they’re to be on site and cooking (So they don’t lose any of their precious profit) They have to take it on the chin when the risk doesn’t pay off.

If the head chef is off because there’s a death in the family and the only other chefs you’ve bothered to hire aren’t up to it, you shut for the day.

Absolute cowboys.

4

u/Adorable_Past9114 4d ago

Let's hope it wasn't from food poisoning

3

u/No-Canary-9845 1d ago

Probably just an EHO inspection

One star will be awarded for a dirty kitchen with zero confidence in management and zero food safety control

That’ll be everything from poor book keeping on temps etc to food badly stored You don’t get hygiene ratings from people claiming food poisoning

u/cloudstrifeuk 4d ago

Can't wait for the re-inspection to give 1 star again.

5

u/pompino 4d ago

0 stars is possible...lets hope.

As much as I hate him though he's smart enough to make sure he doesn't score 1 again

13

u/cloudstrifeuk 4d ago

He isn't smart.

He is a knuckle dragger.

0 stars is often a procedural problem - paperwork not being up to date etc. I'd be happier eating at a 0 star restaurant than a 1 star restaurant.

Dude out here thinking he's in an episode of House of Cards lmao.

You win comments today 🤣

24

u/punkfence 4d ago

You don't need a chef present for an EHO visit. Your kitchen should be clean enough and your documents should be well organised enough for you to pass.

23

u/G0rdon-Bennet 4d ago

ahh the classic 'im being attacked because they dont like what im saying' angle. What an utter bellend.

20

u/mightlisten 4d ago

I’m more interested in the repeated winding up of companies, no filing on the old restaurant. Signing over to girlfriend while retaining the drinks license.

Correlates with the repetitive advertising of £5 meals for so long, smacking of desperation as it flopped.

Has this rebrand happened in hope of limping along until the lease is up?

Love a morning ponder 😂

Why is it that he always thinks he is the victim and that the world is against him ?

The man is delusional, nobody cares enough about him to victimise him. He is a little man screaming at his computer screen.

Quite simply a legend in his own four walls.

u/Illustrious_Study_30 4d ago

Firstly, he's only just reopened that restaurant after " Valetta' failed. The kitchen should be spotless . Secondly, the second inspection is usually arranged immediately die to the low score. I doubt he's getting a second one due to his squinnying.

12

u/Davina33 4d ago

Oh of course it's a conspiracy. Poor old George is being attacked once again. It's nothing he has done wrong because he never does anything wrong. That same old chestnut again.

I would be sending a freedom of info request for the long form report.

I requested it on Sunday just gone, will if course report back

5

u/PersistentBadger 4d ago

Those really should be published as a matter of course. Having to FoIA them is just making something harder that shouldn't be.

4

u/cantrells_posse 4d ago

Please make a post of this when you get it.

This dork really does sleep with a framed 8x10 picture of the orange gobshite bedside I swear. Never known anyone try so hard to implement the “deny, shift focus, attack” tactic and it look so fucking stupid

10

u/Punksnotedd 4d ago

Ah, so it wasn’t their fault for serving unhygienic food, it was the immigrants. Makes sense.

13

u/PracticeSea7628 4d ago

What a sad little life George leads

5

u/EvilActivity 4d ago

He mentions "multiple businesses", anyone know which ones those are, so I can make sure to avoid them?

11

u/vivahate29 4d ago

Go look him up on Companies House - it’s a right laugh. Business after business being compulsory struck off for failing to submit required paperwork.

Almost as if someone doesn’t want to submit a set of accounts…..I wonder why.

12

u/Kathryn_Cadbury 4d ago

I got bored after looking up the 5th one. Lets just say if there is one thing he does excel at, it's failure.

7

u/ODogRamm 3d ago

It's mad, I have never seen soo many directorships like this, just all over the place. Also came across this: https://www.gov.uk/employment-tribunal-decisions/smith-v-signature-by-the-wicks-ltd-1404219-slash-2022

u/Majestic_Analysis_54 34m ago

Looks like he didn't even turn up for the tribunal. Wonder if the claimant ever got her money she was owed.

2

u/Illustrious_Study_30 4d ago

I genuinely couldn't find him on there. ...I'm going to have to try harder . Found the gf.

i can't wait to take over this council and drain it from certain people

Errr what. The. Fuck.

We cannot allow this mong into any position of power jesus wept

8

u/Any-Plate2018 4d ago

Madgwick is going to take over the council and abolish health inspections so that NO ONE can stop him cumming in din dins

8

u/mightlisten 4d ago

Just a thought. Multiple wound up companies that have swerved ever filing? He needs an hmrc inspection of earnings/tax paid.

5

u/Standard-FlipFlop 4d ago

Where does he own so I know not to go?

3

u/mightlisten 3d ago

Riddle me this… How can a company director, with multiple compulsory strike offs, continue being a director on repeat?

3

u/Majestic_Analysis_54 3d ago

I don't know but I wish someone would look into it. This joker wants to become the leader of the council, and looks like he can't run a business for more than five minutes.

7

u/TheTinlicker 4d ago

Is this man capable of taking responsibility for anything? It’s absolutely incredible how nothing is ever his fault.

5

u/Mantaray2142 4d ago

So the kitchen was shut and it wasnt spotless? Then it was a shithole.

7

u/SnapDragon2525 4d ago

My man MadWick jealous the Thai and Curry house down the road had a higher rating.

Perhaps thinks 5* are just for the British.

3

u/carefree_badger 4d ago

I read that as, he didn't have time to ensure his businesses were meeting the required health standards because he was distracted.

3

u/PersistentBadger 4d ago

"The frequency of inspections depends on the potential risk to public health" - food.gov.uk

6

u/payne747 4d ago

And sometimes it's just a shitty restaurant.

This guy thinks everything is a political attack when really it's just a regular one.

6

u/AfterCook780 4d ago

When he says drain people in the Council does he mean feed them his food and watch the results?

4

u/nosniboD 4d ago

Having worked in kitchens before, the only reason you’d want your head chef there is to bamboozle the inspectors and get them to miss things that haven’t been done.

5

u/DropDeadDigsy 4d ago

He’s a muppet

4

u/PerspectiveNo1519 4d ago

Not surprised it got a one star based on the pictures of the food

4

u/dunno1wannaLearn 4d ago

the geezer can not wait to be a mini dictator

4

u/Lorenzo_H95 4d ago

People voted for this muppet? Your kitchen is filthy, don’t make excuses.

4

u/Ra66it_83 4d ago

There was no chef because of a death? How bad was the food?

3

u/TedditRose 4d ago

Absolute sap

2

u/Illustrious_Study_30 3d ago

He's gone fucking nuts..he's moved on to geese now...🤷

I feel like I'm in a parallel universe.
