Good places to live in Portsmouth
Hello, I'm going to start my masters at the uni of Portsmouth this September. I'm looking for accommodation and I was wondering which streets are the best and if there were areas I should avoid.
I mostly found houses with 4-6 rooms to share with other uni students. I found one I like on Pretoria Rd. but I wanna know more about places before I decide.
I'd be happy to receive any advice as I'm an international student and haven't been to Portsmouth before. Thank you so much!

My very generalised opinion. Areas in order… good first, not so good last. - Old Portsmouth, Southsea, Eastney, Fratton, Portsea, Copnor, North End, Stamshaw, Somerstown.

Bang on. (Be careful about that border between old Portsmouth and portsea - you don't want to get those mixed up.)
PO5 and PO4 postcodes are basically what you want.

Pretoria road is a good, safe area, in Portsmouth.
Very near Albert road, but not on it, so not as noisy.
There’s a Lidl’s and Tesco express on goldsmith avenue. and the Rodney road retail park has a tesco supermarket, b and q, aldi and b and m , kfc and McDonald’s.
fratton park is there too, so you could get a match in.

Pretoria road is fine and you get the wonders of Pretoria News - not many of these shops left! Good selection of craft beers from the local breweries.
