I was driving to a tim Hortons to grab some late night snacks, only hit a roadblock due to an accident. I wasn't sure how to get around it so went up to the officer to ask some directions. We got to talking about me joining the department until I finally parted a few minutes later. I felt bad that he was there completely alone in the cold night for however long so I grabbed a small black. He accepted it with a emphatic thank you. But it wasn't until leaving that I wasn't sure if they are even allowed to accept such a thing. It may seem harmless, but I wouldn't be surprised of there was some kind of "it could be poison" or even dumber "its a bribe" type of policies.

In August 11, the Guangdong Provincial Public Security Department(In basic terms, guangdong provincial police) issued 2nd class Meritorious service medals to 4 police officers for their actions during floods in August 2025.

The list of recipients is as follows:

Hu Huiping(胡慧平), SWAT officer of the Huidong County police, who on August 4, 2025, rescued over 50 people stuck in a building due to a flood with the help of 5 auxiliary officers

Zheng Wei(郑伟), traffic police officer of Zhaoqing police, who on august 4, 2025 found an unconscious woman in a car that was stuck in the flood and rescued her

Zhao Qinghui(赵庆辉) and Wen Donglin(温东林), Dongguan police officers who rescued a person stuck in a car stuck in deep water outside a tunnel during a flood on august 5, 2025

I'd think if it was cops, they wouldn't do it at 5:00 am. Unless something happened down the street.

And if they did, they're not just going away. They've got a warrant and are going to execute it.

Context: In the morning of June 29, 2014, a while a SWAT vehicle of the Weihai Police(Weihai(威海) is a city in Shandong province) was returning after a mission, the driver(who is allegedly a rookie) lost control of the vehicle which ended up driving off the road

What's funnier is the response from the Weihai police themselves:

"This driver's driving likely will take time to improve; It's Special Police/SWAT, they will do special things, please forgive him."

(in china, SWAT officers often use the term on insignia but the literal translation of SWAT is "special police")

I had a big hand in making it normal to seize cars with a warrant. We would get in pursuits and lose suspects and that would be it. Now we show up at their house and take their cars. Over the past decade this has really taken off and neighboring agencies have picked up on it. It's especially useful for those with restrictive pursuit policies.

2007, Newmarket Canada. 3 elephants escaped from their pen at a travelling circus. With the help of police, animal control and circus staff, all 3 elephants were safely returned with no harm to the general public (except a few local bushes)

Departments without polygraphs?

Former Alaska State Trooper here. I just sold my house and left Alaska for personal reasons and am looking for work in the lower 48.

I’ll be upfront: I hate polygraphs. I’ve passed two (AST and Anchorage PD), but I can’t stand them. I know Montana and Oregon don’t use them, but I’m originally from Montana and worked as a sheriff there — the pay is terrible and the land prices are insane, so I’m looking elsewhere.

Anyone here know which states/counties/cities skip polygraphs in their hiring process?

I’m interested in transitioning into the working dog industry, but not necessarily as a handler or trainer. I see myself more on the business side — K9 sales, operations, marketing, or support roles.
