/u/liono69 character ID (new player application)

Level: 0

Team: Full Tech

Name: Chance 'the lion' Danyon

Starting Equipment and associated abilities:

Chance currently has a Mk I blue wire Omni-Tool which has the following capabilities:

Incendiary deployment/Flashlight/Dispensing medi-gel (capacity: 2)/audio communication

A personal ballistic armor and flak vest, primitive by the standards of 2162.

Background:

Chance Danyon is an Earth bound bounty hunter in the year 2162, just after the First Contact War. He is a veteran of the Alliance who entered the private sector rather than venture into space. Chance uses tech to track down his targets and to ensure his clients pay up, as well as to even his odds in a fight. Since leaving the alliance Chance has not carried a firearm, preferring to rely on his stealth, shielding and melee combat capabilities that his omni-tool affords him. Chance is purpose driven and extremely skilled at figuring out new electronics quickly, he is also perceptive and has the reflexes of a seasoned soldier. Of all of the obstacles Chance faces in his day to day, the worst is perhaps his sometimes crippling anxiety, especially when it comes to heights and particularly in a lack of gravity.

A veteran of the First contact war, Chance served the Alliance as a combat engineer and the vessel on which he served was one of the first to be decimated by the Turian Fleet. Chance was the only survivor to be cleared for service after the incident and retired soon after, turning down an invitation to the N7 program on the basis that he felt compromised by his own fear and anxiety.

Personality:

Chance is mostly a loner but when he forms an emotional attachment or feels honor bound to a compatriot, the bond is hard to break. This aside he lacks charisma and can often come off as rude or uncaring, especially to his clients. His name is whispered by CEOs, Alliance Generals and Council members alike as his work speaks for itself: thorough and discreet. He works alone and almost always brings in his mark regardless of race, species, wealth or notoriety.

Current Events:

Recently, Chance was contracted by an anonymous client to apprehend a smuggler of alien organs who is operating out of Mexico City, under the protection of a gang known as the Tenth Street Reds. Chance has been in Mexico city for a week, blending in and enjoying the five star accommodations his benefactor has afforded him. He recently learned about a big sale the Reds are running protection for on the outskirts of the Mexico City spaceport after accessing the credit account of a supposedly deceased Asari that used to run a bar near the space port. Biding his time and being watchful for further intelligence, the lion waits for the right time to strike.

Current Location: Mexico City, Earth in the year 2162, Universe 12010 (OP code)

Straight up the best '80s action movie name on this sub.

I absolutely love it. Chance Danyon just rolls off the tongue.

Thanks! I'm stoked to participate!

It just works really well as a slightly cheesy tough guy name. It has the one syllable first name, two syllable last name combo that every badass does.

Chuck Norris, Clint Eastwood, Han Solo, Dave Ryder, Kung Fury, Wade Wilson, Steve Rogers... it's a tried and true formula.

Arnold Schwarzenegger: The Terminator. Checkmate.

I think a fully functional omni-tool is a bit much by itself, even without the armor. Keep in mind most other level ones have a single thing they can do that's fairly limited. For example I had only my soulspear (think Darth Maul's lightsaber), and even that was pushing it due to the properties of the weapon.

Maybe think about what you for sure want to work first. Like the medi-gel dispenser working (or w/e). Because I don't see it being fully functional at level 1. You will advance past that so you can 'unlock' more functionality as you go.

Other than that I like the backstory, and established fiction is fine to borrow from. I mean I'm playing a techpriest from Warhammer 40K who wields a weapon from the same universe while flying a ship from there as well.

I am already doing that though, these are the abilities I did not include:

omni gel converter/omni blade/ data download/ object creation/ omni armor projection/omni shield.

I only gave myself 1 offensive ability (incendiary deployment)... I mean I guess I guess I could limit omnigel capacity to 2 and nix the repair function but beyond that I'm not sure I wouldn't be better served just picking a gun instead.

EDIT: I actually really like omni tool, if my suggested nerfs are not proficient what else do you think is over powered?

EDIT 2: I think I have a good fix, based on ME canon. Let me know if this is adequate: I gutted hacking, holographic and video communication, the camera and the repair function as well as limiting the omni gel capacity.

Clarify for me when you can, what all can the omnitool do right now, as you'd prefer to have it?

"flammable gasses held in place by a mass effect field and utilized during melee combat to cause sever burns to opponents when deployed" - ME Codex

  • Flashlight (just what it sounds like)

  • Scanner (think local map display, hostiles as red dots)

  • Medi-Gel dispenser cap:2

"a local anesthetic, antibiotic and clotting agent that grips tight to flesh and is sealable against liquids, gasses and contaminants." (the minimum that you start with in ME1 is a capacity of 3)

  • Audio Communication (exactly what it sounds like, typical omnitools project holographic communication as well as video and audio but I dulled this down)

incendiary deployment

So, like a flaming backhand?

Flashlight is fine.

Scanner might be a little OP when combined with everything else.

Medi-Gel heals how much damage and over what period of time? What kind of limits are there? I know it's a gaming abstraction, but for this, we'll need to know if it fully repairs all damage, good as new, if it just speeds up natural healing, if it heals over things like bullets, or if it expels them, etc. When your 2 available units are consumed, how will you come by additional units?

Audio communication is fine, but you'll only be able to communicate with other devices if you've already come into contact with them or their owner, or if they somehow contact you first.

So, like a flaming backhand?

exactly

I am fine with omitting the scanner for now, and using it as a "level up" feature down the line. Story wise I will just say that by whatever means my character goes from ME to wherever these challenges will occur scrambles the tool and he slowly regains functionality.

The best answer I can give to the medi gel question (beyond the codex which I've quoted and linked) is that it heals to a level of combat functionality because it bonds to a users cells to repair tissue, dampen pain and eliminate infection. It is later removed using sonic mass effect fields in a health clinic or by a combat medic like Dr. Chakwas. I would come by additional units once "leveled up" with an omni gel converter function which I can use to break down materials and convert it into medi gel or omni gel. Another "level up" function would be increasing medi gel capacity and effectiveness.

If it is less problematic (sounding like it might be) I can ditch the medi gel function altogether and instead use the tools programming/hacking capability in its slot.

Looks good.

awesome. the medigel will be handi and the hacking is a great level up function to save for down the line. So does that mean I am approved?

Huh, someone else with an omni-tool. That could make things interesting, especially since my character isn't even from the Mass Effect universe.
