5 Man Test Post: carlos821's gang.

You have been contacted out of the blue with an offer;

“A ship has washed ashore on an unassuming small island about 50 miles northwest of Puerto Rico. There is something inside that belongs to us. It is in a box about 3 meters long, 1 meter wide, and 1 meter tall. You will know it when you see it. We wish you to retrieve it for us. We have contacted you along with a number of other individuals due to your unique skills. You will be working alongside them to retrieve the box. For this, you will be paid one million dollars.”

Along with this message came a time and a place. You have decided to accept, for your own reasons. At the meeting spot, you found a gaggle of strange characters, none of whom you know. You didn’t have much time to acquaint yourself with your new teammates before being ushered into a helicopter.

Some Mechanics

In addition to testing GM coordination, this quest will be using and testing the turn system proposed by CobaltMonkey after the end of the 3-Man quest, which should hopefully allow players to interact more freely and also make the timeline of events easier to follow. Turns will go like this:

  1. I will make a top-level comment to set the stage, and number it so that people can follow along at a later date.

  2. Each player will respond to that comment. If they want to react to something another player did, they will respond to that player's comment instead and tag me.

  3. I make a new top-level comment, number it, and let all the players know.

  4. Repeat 2 and 3 until we're done.

As an example, a turn might look something like:

carlos821:

[1]

Stuff happens.

Player 1:

I do A.

Player 2:

I do B.

Player 3:

[/u/carlos821]

I notice player 2 doing B, and do C in response.

Player 4:

I do D.

Player 5:

I do E.

To begin, respond to the comment I have made on this post.

Chatterbox and Solomon vanish, the only clue to their location being a few splashes of seawater that quickly quiet down, as they take their positions. Solomon, you’re unable to find a toolbox to hide behind, having to settle for a nearby jet. This jet’s front landing gear are missing, so you duck behind the cockpit. You can’t see from here if one side has more water than another; looking down, you just see the water lapping back and forth. You peek out from your hiding place at the soldiers.

The soldiers seem at a loss, glancing around as if hoping to catch a glimpse of these invisible men. They seem not to know what to make of anything you’ve said. One yells out, “Lieutenant! Orders?” The smoker, still standing on one of the ruined jets behind the newly formed row of men, massages his temples for a second. Then he calls out.

“You four, keep weapons trained on them. Everyone else fan out. Find them.” Immediately, the other eight men start moving out among the rows of jets. The Lieutenant takes another drag from his cigarette, before snuffing it out. He glares at the Alkalite.

“I’ll ask the questions here. Far as I can see, you’ve appeared out of the blue in my hanger, with a turtle. Not sure what you are, but we’ll find out on my terms, not yours. Lower your weapons. NOW!” Having yelled this out with considerable force, he immediately reaches up and massages his temples again, grimacing.

Chatterbox and Solomon, the other soldiers are moving closer to your position. In another, oh, maybe 15-20 seconds, they’ll spot you.

What do you do?

Jim still has his hands up, shaking with fear. Byte's turret recedes.

Given that your teammates are shooting explosive darts at the soldiers and taking cover, do you want to keep standing there with your hands up?

Byte goes into action, flying at the soldiers and body slamming one of them at high speeds. Meanwhile Jim, surprised, clumsily dives behind a jet.

The lowered nose of the jet actually proves very convenient, as it allows me to climb onto the wing. I then crawl on my stomach to the tail, using the combination of extra elevation and slope, as well as positioning myself between the vertical stabilizers, to keep myself out of view.

Once in position, I pull on a loop near the middle of my coiled rope, testing how easily it slides, and listen for the people moving past, waiting for the last one.

After 15 seconds of non-use, my cloaking system is fully charged again, ready to be used in aid of remaining unseen until just the right moment if need be.

My mind races. "Have we really come to kill or be killed already? He looks and sounds like he belongs here. What if we just surrender? Can I afford to take that risk?"

"Alrighty then, nasty it is"

Chance combat rolls to his left, taking cover behind a jet

At the same time, I fire off my dart gun at the officers, before diving after Chance to share his cover. I'm not even really aiming at them individually, just around them. Though it'd be lucky if it indeed struck one of them. At the same time I shout out "Stop, or you'll get blown up!"

I take a page from Solomon's book and haul myself up onto the plane and crouch behind the rear tail flaps on the side opposite the approaching guards. Better to not throw the first punch, but I know for a fact that I can take out a couple of goons non-lethally if they get separated from their pals while in close quarters.
