Ohio changed a year or two ago, no longer requires front plates.

As an Ohio resident, I can say with confidence that was over 6 years ago now...
Edit: My most upvoted post on reddit is literally a news article posted to the r/cars sub when it happened.

In all honesty, this map was made for GeoGuessr so it’s probably about 5 years out of date.

Alaska should be blue as well

Yeah, changed in 2022, I was given two plates when I registered a car then but only had to put one on.

There's a lot of states missing.
Let me guess, you relied on AI?

u/Meshable123 1d ago
AI would never get this right

u/BugRevolution 1d ago
...and since it isn't right, seems like you're essentially saying you used AI

It's old its made for geogussr, so it's accurate based on the dates of Google coverage

I was thinking the same thing. I recognized the map quickly. However, this map is already outdated.

I have been ticketed in CA for only having a back plate (albeit many years ago).

Blue is states that require only a rear license plate. Green states require both a front and a rear license plate.

Fun fact - only three Canadian provinces out of 11 provinces and three territories require front plates. BC, Manitoba and Ontario

I was having a hard time already and then I saw the asterisks and now I know I don’t know

If you live in one of the blue states it might be even easier 👀

I’ve lived in six of those blue states in the past 9 years and would not have gotten the answer

u/Meshable123 1d ago
Tbf if you live there maybe you wouldn’t notice it as much because you’re used to it

I live in one of the blue states. I saw the answer. I had no idea it was the case in the other states.

Asterisk means you need the front plate if your car comes with a front bracket, but you aren't forced to drill the bumper if it doesn't.

Fun fact: There's a cop car in Albuquerque, NM, that has a Miami Dolphins decorative plate on the front.

Why can’t we all agree on the same plate laws? We’re supposed to be United

Texas doesn't really enforce if it's what I think it is. Never got pulled over for it.
