PC Help/Bug (Vanilla) How often do you give up on a colony?
I mean before being wiped out completely, do you ever just think 'nah this is cursed, I'm starting over'
My last run I gave up because coincidental crap kept just screwing me.
In the end i sent a caravan to clear a mech cluster with a sun blocker, after messing around for days getting all the deathrest out of the way half way there one of them gets malaria. Then they arrived and a raid hits home base at the same time! This was also days after my key crafter died from a single grenade throw which also set my armour upgrade back again. My lead vampie did manage to burn off both his middle fingers at one point though, so thats something.

It would be cool to be able to find your old colonies, maybe with most of the loot gone and the buildings decayed for balance. Granted that means reusing worlds but it might be an interesting mechanic

All the fucking time, but it always bothers me.

Im glad its not just me then haha.
I try to remember the phase 'dont hold onto a mistake just because you spent a long time making it' but sometimes you just think the worst is over then someone goes and drops dead.

Yeah, honestly, an unfortunate habit I picked up from XCOM but you can just Alt-F4 and it goes back to your last autosave.
I've been trying to curtail that because it's a story generator rather than something I need to "win".
The story of a colony that lost it's leader and slowly decayed into chaos? Cool as fuck. That same story but recovering with an unlikely hero? Cool as fuck.
Having a perfect base that endures all comers? Fun the first couple of raids, but that's where RANDY should enter the picture.

I'm the same, for me I'm always thinking this will be it this is the colony I will see to whatever end.
And then around 4 hours later. I'm dissatisfied with how I've built it, and it's far too much effort to tear it all down and rebuild

I usually give up on a colony because I've cheated to keep the colony going, and the run feels 'tainted'.

Very rarely. If a colony isn’t fun I might but RimWorld has so many interesting moments that even hopeless colonies are still entertaining.
I tend to play with the random start mod and just play with what I get until the colony collapses.

I've been playing on and off since 2013 and have only seen the end titles once.
Some colonies come to a natural conclusion, either soaked in blood or achieving my aim (like the top tier SRS ship) Most however I decide that I either want to restart to go in another direction or just burn out from Rimworld and need to take a break to play another game.

Two colonies in the past sevendays. First reason - when shit goes sideways to the point of colony collapse I don’t see the point in continuing. Second reason - I find it really difficult to not play high life tribals on open maps in warm climates. I’ve been loving grasslands lately and my last tribal colony collapsed because of a dual anomaly event I wasn’t prepared for.
I just gave up on a crashland start on a mountain base because I forgot to clear harbinger trees from the home area and I forgot to forbid the gates outside during a manhunter raid. 2/8 of my pawns went outside and got mauled, 3 were already in the sick bay and because I didn’t realise how whiny transhumanist ideology pawns are, everyone was on a mental break.
So, back to high life for me, this time preparing for anomaly rather than starting it early.

Way too often. I think the longest I've spent on a colony is a bit over 2.5 years in-game. But if I'm having an especially bad start I'll do-over right then. Right now I'm doing one of those all passions no skills solo type runs. I wanna see how far I can get without recruiting anyone.

No more than once per colony.
