Misc Yall, my mom just asked me about Rimworld
Didnt know where else to post but wanted to vent the weird culture clash happening. I was having dinner with my familly, barely paying attention, when my mom asks me "So youd buy me Rimworld right?"
Honestly all i heard was Rimworld so my immediate reply was "Sure, wait Rimworld?"
Apparently my little sister, whos been watching my Jedi Temple run, has been relaying this info to my mom, from my start with two Jedi Knights and about 8 orphans to those Orphans now being grown up and getting ready to take the war to the sith.Appqrently she's been gushing about the game, so now my moms asking me questions about the gameplay and wants me to buy it for her as a gift, since the last game she got obsessed with was Stardew after i bought it for her.
So now im waiting for it to download as i type this and so excited to see the war crimes she'll get up to.

Discussion Never realized how good art can be for trade
Few hundred hours in and I honestly always figured making art would be just a huge waste of time/resources.
Had a pawn with tortured artist trait get an inspiration and everything was going well in the colony so I figured what the hell, let's let her make her art. Made her a bench. Had a decent bit of silver saved up and noticed a medium sculpture made out of silver only takes 100 to make. I let her make 3 figuring I'd lose some silver, but whatever, there's more to mine on the map...
She proceeds to produce 3 good quality silver sculptures I traded for about 1000 each. Literally 10x profit.
That went to a bunch of penoxycline and netruoamine a shaman trader had that helped keep off a wave of sleeping sickness a week later.
Long story short, don't sleep on art.

#ColonistLife Colonists on fire are the dumbest people in existence
'I'm on fire! So I will charge headfirst into the middle of all my enemies, when downed crawl the exact opposite direction of my allies and through even more fire, and generally make every single decision possible in the worst way possible.'
Like, I get it. Fire needs to be dangerous and impactful. Someone on fire isn't going to be thinking all that rationally, and I've never been on fire, so I can't particularly comment on exactly how much it disables rational thought. But goddamn. You would think that a person living in some of the harshest conditions for years would be able to retain a sliver of survival instinct. Just as tad. Just a drop.
I have absolutely no reason to complain about this at this specific moment, none at all.

Discussion PSA: Finish the mechanitor stuff before you finish the Odyssey stuff. (Spoilers?) Spoiler
Ripped the big ol space brain apart the other day
Confirmed that all the mech guards were comatose when a defoliator landed
Said to myself, "I wonder if I can summon an apocriton and just wail on it's unconscious body for a minute to get free chips, or if the bosses will still be awake somehow to prevent you from cheesing a million wastepack atomizers"
Turns out, you just can't summon em any more once you've shut the mechs off on the planet
Glad I built enough atomizers beforehand
TLDR: make sure you have all the signal chips and what have you that you're going to need before you rip the big space-brain apart

#ColonistLife I knew Rot Stink was a thing, but...
I took a long break sometime between Ideology and Biotech and didn't play again until Odyssey came out. I mostly kept up with the bigger changes after watching some creator content in the last few months, so I knew rot stink was a thing because Ludeon apparently hates melee blocking, I guess. But I didn't realize until this moment that the range of it expands based on the amount of rotting things. If the mountain wasn't there, it would be almost the length of my ship (77 units) and wider than my ship.
True, its 175 rotting gorehulks, but still.. I would have thought it would be no more than 5 units from a single corpse.
*Edit: Friends, while I do appreciate the corpse removal suggestions, I'm posting this due to my shock how large rot stink clouds can get. Trust me, I have over 5000 hours in Rimworld... I've dealt with corpses before. I have butchered, fragged, molotoved, froze, buried, mass graved, dumped on the floor, dumped in water, cremated, furnace roomed, caged, piked, displayed in glass, fertilized my farms with, lined my "mental break" defense tunnels with, used as a scarecrows, transport podded, fed to animals, fed to prisoners, fed to guests, fed to colonists, drove traders insane with, decorated rooms with, burned in a tunnel... etc etc. I will say that I haven't used the anomaly tree yet..

Mod Showcase Want to ethically get rid of colonists? Vanilla Outposts Expanded. Unobtrusive mod I wish I’d found sooner.
One of the biggest challenges for me in Rimworld is how to get rid of colonists I do not want. Whether it’s people who join without asking or the 4 year old being chased by scythers I refuse to let die, banishing them just felt mean, but keeping them interfered with my storytelling.
Now you can put them in a caravan, have them set up an outpost, and ethically remove them from the colony. I don’t want the caravans they can optionally send so I usually just put them in Encampment Outposts.
There’s an option to disable raids on the outposts for extra ignoring power, but currently raids are just completely disabled as of the 1.6 update so you don’t even have to worry about that.
I love this mod so so so so much. I don’t think I can live without it anymore.

Colony Showcase My little slice of paradise.
About 5 years in on this one. Doing an "a little bit of everything" playthrough. So far I've got 15 colonists: Two royals (Knight and Acolyte), 5 casters (including royals) all leveled 6-11, and a Mech. Not sure my next move yet. Def need some steel before I do anything else.

Story Screenshots of my open world multi colony run. All in one world. 30 years of history
gallerySo I've been using the vehicle map framework mod, pause settlements to do something I've always wanted to do. Create a living world with multiple locations, lore, history, different player factions trading and fighting each other. I wanted to have a general idea about how things would unfold, but respecting Rimworld's storytelling and randomness and adding it to the story.
My world has 3 major factions ( player faction that I split into 3 ). House Solarin, green color, own fertile land, farms and very rich, their banner is green and golden. House Harwell, miners, industrial and more militaristic, red faction. Then the islanders, a group of sailors, fishermen and pirates, they own the seas. In total, counting pawns in the different locations, military camps, outposts, around 1000 pawns and more.
I also made a couple of neutral ports, a house, fishing village, tavern here and there to make the world feel alive. And sometimes I focus on a small crew in a ship, sailling around doing missions, surviving, getting rich.. and it helps to see these locations on the world map, where I can enter, see people doing their job there, use their facilities and comfortable inn, trade etc ... So one day I could be playing a classic rimworld experience, expanding a faction, building an outpost, managing ships everywhere on the world map for trade to flow, and sometimes I zoom in, pause everything else, except the outposts generating ressources so it feels that factions are getting stronger with or without me, and focus on a single crew, a privateer making money, a cargo ship hauling cargo, or a pirate attacking one of the ships in the world map and there are always at least 5, then I play a naval fight between them, turn one whole ship hostile and have them fire at each other in open sea. Looks amazing, all canons firing, and whoever dies is gone, be it an important pawn or not.
At the moment, the storyteller kept making the leader and his second in command social fight a lot, and presented me with some quests at the right time, for the second in command to betray him and start a rebellion. 8 ships in his command, he could easily go take over the farm, and then to the Harwell mountains.
However, Harwell just started to build ships too, and ironclads. So I'm curious to see how these wooden ships will do against steel ships and slightly better weapons.
I enjoy building stories like this, if you also like it, ask me anything about the lore or the mechanics, mods etc use to make this possible.

Discussion Max movespeed beats jump and jetpacks considerably
With the right combination of genes, drugs, and traits, you can reliably maintain about half this value—roughly on par with jumping and a jetpack on 100% walkspeed terrain; otherwise, it'd need close to this value to overcome 87% walkspeed soil.

Discussion There is literally no downsides for accepting shuttle down quest
Basically what title says.
If you accept the quest and dont have any intention of defending the pawn, the raid will come, attack them, if they succeded on their kill attempt, they will go, if not they are dead.
Either case you at least get a free shuttle engine (if playing with oddissey) and a few plasteel/steel/components.
The -10 hit to rep is basically nothing.

Discussion How man colonist do you normally have?
I have been looking at colonies in post and I rarely see colonies with over like ten people even after years.
My main colony has 31 colonist. Between secondary settlements and outpost I have 118 people in my faction.
Am I just going crazy with people or do some of you do that too?

Discussion The perfect guide - first days of gameplay
galleryHey there!
After the positive feedback on the first few panels, I felt motivated to do the first portion of gameplay.
I'm fully aware that I'm not playing in the best possible way. Firstly, there are different opinions about what constitutes perfect gameplay, and secondly, this guide aims to explain as many mechanics as possible. Furthermore, I don't want to babysit potential newcomers; I want them to learn things on their own, but with enough knowledge to achieve success every now and then.
With that said I'm looking forward to your feedback again!
Also: You are welcome to point out typos or other text-related mistakes. English isn't my mothertongue.

#ColonistLife Tip if you have biotech
I was having a hard time healing the crumbling mind of this blind healer, because everytime i killed or euthanized him, he automatically ressurected as an enemy. So, i've had the idea to vaporize his brain in the ripscanner. He didn't became an enemy and the game allowed me to ressurect him as an ally with the death refusal. Healed his brain and his eyes, and got a free high subcore
