Google Home-Roku command to "Press [the Roku remote] OK/Select button"

*** Posting to /r/Roku. Also posted to /r/googlehome. ***

Recently I set up our Roku to respond to Google Home speaker commands.

So far, speaking to the Google Home smart speaker works for general commands such as "Start <app name> on Roku" and "Rewind on Roku" as well as other principle phrases.

However, I have been unable to find any way to issue what I consider a simple command for "Press OK/Select button on Roku" to trigger the Roku to select what is of focus on the TV/Roku itself (e.g. go to what is currently selected/highlighted, on the Roku device).

I've reviewed what I think encompass all direct/exact articles but nothing is clearing up what this "specific proper command" may be. What I surmise is that there may be no way to perform the titled command, which I find too bad, should be the case.

Looking for help as to: "Hey do this" or "Nope there is nothing to do that action."

Thanks for any help.

P.S. Help articles already reviewed include (but provided no answer to my query):

Screensaver Help

Hey! I'm new to Roku. I've had a chromecast for the past almost 10 years and one thing I really miss about it is the ability to have family photos as a screen saver AND have the time, weather, wifi info, etc on the screen. I'm using photo streams on the Roku but it doesn't let you have any of that info, it keeps putting up an annoying QR code to add more pics, and doesn't do side by side pics for pics taken I portrait view. Overall, I'm missing the customization possible for the chromecast screensaver. Are there any ways to fix this that I'm not seeing or maybe something besides photo stream that let's me display my photos. I could honestly get past everything but the QR code popping up.

running a 32R3B5 and OTA only

I have to replace the TV at my grandparents and there is a lack of dumb TVs that they are accustomed to.

So I am looking at a 32" Select series 32R3B5 - 32R3BX as one of the options.

How easy would it be for them to use the TV with only Over the Air broadcasts and skip the Roku menu navigation? They dont have broadband and have no need for the preinstalled apps.

I went to Bestbuy and Target and they didnt have the remotes to browse the individual TVs to test them myself so they were stuck on the store display modes.

Hey, so I’ve had this Westinghouse Roku TV since around 2021 and about 2 years ago in 2023 these lines started showing up. Does anyone know if there is a way I could fix this somehow? Thanks.

Only Netflix app is working.

UPDATE: I ended up calling Roku customer service and had to factory reset, which worked.

Hi. I’m having issues with all of the apps on my tcl Roku tv except for Netflix. I have power cycled, uninstalled/reinstalled, reset the router. It’s not my internet, as my other devices are working. I’ve searched for troubleshooting tips and found a 3 year old post that is archived. Is anyone else having this issue? Hulu, Disney +, hbo max, and peacock are not working. Netflix is the only app I can stream. Any help would be appreciated.

Tv app issues. Not working.

Bought a Roku Hisense TV in 2021. It’s worked great since then. All of a sudden this week I keep having trouble with all of my apps on Roku (Hulu, HBO, Netflix, Paramount+) Even the Roku channels give me trouble. Each time I go into these apps, they don’t load. I’ll have to manually update each one. Then at times I’ll get that I’m not in the region where they can work. I’ll have to factory reset my tv, disconnect/connect internet connection. I’ve done this every day for a week. All the other tvs in my home along with the apps work great. What should I do? Is it a tv issue or an internet issue? I even tried to connect via Ethernet cable to my tv and it still didn’t work properly. Assistance please.

Random shows appearing in Continue Watching

Recently I’ve noticed that when I go to What to Watch on the Home Screen, random shows and movies from the Peacock app appear in the Continue Watching section. I have never started watching any of them, and when I am in the Peacock app, they don’t appear in the Continue Watching section. I only have one profile set up in the Peacock app and on Roku, and I’ve never given anyone access to my login info. When I press the * button and delete these items from the Roku Continue Watching section, new ones will pop up the next time I check. Is this happening to anyone else? Is there a way to make it stop?

How to set up a automatic screensaver of photos without Roku backdrops

For context I believe I have a 4K Roku stick from 2018 if that changes anything. The google photo view app doesn’t seem to be supported anymore. Roku photo streams seem to be replaced by backdrops. And Roku backdrops either needs a 30 min idle to start or you have to turn it on manually and the album doesn’t even shuffle. Is there any better alternative to Roku backdrops for more screensaver customization?

Are Roku remotes universal to other Roku devices? I have a Roku (it’s kinda old) and the remote is lost. If I bought a new one, would it work still?

Roku keeps restarting...Fixed it!

Fixed tv restarting! My tv kept restarting while watching. Once I got into the tv settings (advanced) I disabled "control by mobile apps". This makes my Roku app on my phone no longer work as a remote, but it has finally fixed the annoying problem that I've been having for over a year!

Does the Roku pro remote let you use it on the YouTube app to search

I used to have an Android TV before it finally died, and one of my favorite features was the voice remote — I could search YouTube videos without having to type them out. I recently picked up an onn. 4K Roku TV (I know it’s one of Walmart’s cheaper brands, but that’s all I can afford right now, so please don’t give me hell for that).

I’ve been thinking about investing in one of the Roku Pro remotes and was wondering — do they still have that same kind of voice search feature, or not?

TCL Roku TVs and input question

Hi there!! I have a TCL Roku TV which has served me well over the last year. My family is looking for a new TV as well. One issue/question I have is: when exiting one of the installed apps, is it possible to return to the last used input (ex. cable TV) rather than the Roku home screen; thereby adding an extra step for someone who isn't tech savvy. Thanks! I already know how to set it so that it goes to a preset set input when it's turned on. TIA!!

Is there a bug in the latest Roku update? The back button isn't working on my Roku

I have a pair of Roku premier. One of them is working fine and the other one isn't working with the back menu button.

I thought it was a problem with the Roku so I factory defaulted it to see if it was a software issue. That ended up getting the back button working for a while, and then after about 5 minutes the back button on my remote stopped working.

Both of the remotes that I have for my Roku premieres work on my upstairs Roku just fine. Neither remote works on the downstairs Roku.

I find it very curious that a factory default gets the back button working again. Until it doesn't.

Obviously you can conclude from what I just posted that the remotes are emitting light. I look at them through my digital camera on my phone and I see light. When I use the back button on my downstairs Roku I see the light on my Roku premier blink. So it's registering light from the back button.

I think there's a bug in the software. Roku's probably going to have to do something about this.

There's one or two other posts in the sub right now talking about the back button not working too. I don't think I'm alone.

Edit: oh it gets weirder. When I use the back button in the home menu, I hear the menu go bloop bloop. When I move to the right and highlight or bracket an app, the software stops blooping. It's like the back button stops working in the app area or in apps. So I'm 99% now this is some really weird bug. Any one know where I report this?
