Book Request MMC pushes FMC too far?

So I’ve been reading some dark romances (specifically AJ Merlin) recently and there is usually this moment where the MMC pushes the FMC into doing something she isn’t comfortable with, be it BDSM, public sex, derogatory language etc. And, inevitably tis causes the FMC to have an awakening that she actually likes being treated this way and yay for MMC for helping her discover this about herself.

But now I want a rec where the FMC is not having a kinky epiphany. She genuinely is not thrilled about being randomly spanked, or stalked, or called Daddy’s little slut. Or maybe she does like all that but this time the MMC pushed it too far past her comfort zone. Point is, he made it weird or uncomfortable or unsafe and he realizes it.

I don’t necessarily need a grovel (although I do love those) but looking for a book where the MMC at the very least has an “oh shit, I fucked up” moment

And for those of you that read Dom by SJ Tilly, this post is semi-inspired by that too, in that he lowkey broke the FMC, realizes he fucked up, and at least internally resolved to fix it (although sadly no grovel there)

{Ruthless Creature by JT Geissinger} is my favorite version of this. She’s a normie art teacher, he’s a mafia hitman — when they meet, he’s immediately like “I will spank your ass red until you come” and she’s like “Uh … ok. No thank you?”

I’m surprised this was a Geissinger book, everyone I’ve read had impromptu anal scenes that made me cringe (no lube, no prep, FMC immediately loved it and was able to walk the next day despite his massive dick)

My favorite one is still {Playing for Keeps by JC Grant}, the MMC says he wants to stick it in her ass and her response is “your dick is huge and has no business being anywhere near my ass”

Are you talking about the first time anal with melted butter from a lobster dinner poolside scene? It’s burned into my brain (in a very bad way).

Turn back now if you want to eat guacamole these next few days. Someone’s pic of the excerpt. Here’s another post. Then if you scroll down, OP mentions that the MMC squeezes lime juice on the FMC’s vagina 😭😭

Edited: I found a pic of the excerpt lol

LOLOL this is a different JT Geissinger book - but also a completely unhinged use of food.

{Game Over by Selena Williams}

MMC and FMC meet via an online video game. MMC kidnaps her and takes her to his compound where he has set up game “levels” for her to complete. The game involves him chasing her and non-consent. She goes into shock, and he takes care of her to help her recover.

{Devious Obsession by S. Massery} has a section like this. They discussed the first time they met that neither of them had any boundaries and then both found out the hard way that she apparently does have a HARD boundary related to childhood trauma that she(for obvious reasons) never disclosed. I don't think he groveled with any words or anything but he did take a lot of care with her once he realized that she was ACTUALLY traumatized. I've read a lot of things that made me feel lots of ways but reading that scene from her POV was pretty hard, and then it was again hard reading the aftermath from his POV when he realizes how much he fucked up. Obligatory check the tw/cw list

{Duplicity by Eloise Hart}

The scene is gut wrenching and thankfully the grovel is long and satisfying!

This happens in {Hell by C. Hallman}. It is very dark. The MMC has never thought a day in his life about what it means to lose someone’s trust by pushing past their limits. And I loved having a FMC who found her voice. I found the ending deeply cathartic as she finally decided she didn’t have to accept men hurting her because they “couldn’t help it.” And he has to reorder his whole world view to understand how valuable trust is and stop being so selfish. Sometimes when a dark romance say HEA I’m sort meh about it. But this is one I really believed.

{The Player by Kresley Cole} The fmc is a con artists. Her family are all con artists. And the family is in financial trouble from a sting gone wrong. The mmc is rich and successful and they hope to target him. Really loved this book and recommend it! The fmc basically wants to ends things with mmc she’s so upset with way him. But I do think she ends up liking the kink. So maybe not 100% fitting.

I literally just read this. {Gifts of Gold by Rawnie Sabor}. There is a lot of kink, and the too far is emotional stuff rather than physical. There is a pretty big conversation about it. The dom in charge of the club they are in swoops in and yells at the MMC, and even before he has a realization that it was too much.
