Rome Remastered First time completing Pontus VH/VH

Post image
20 Upvotes

My most fun campaign for a while.

Managed to stay at peace with Seleucia until I had pushed the Greeks out of Asia Minor.

Allied with Egypt as they were sieging Seleucia's capital Antioch, but before I knew it they pouring armies into Asia Minor and threatening me too.

I betrayed Egypt to ally with Seleucia, and had this epic first encounter with either faction in the whole campaign, to help relieve the Seleucid capital from siege by Egyptian Faction Leader & Heir.

This started a mass clearout of Egyptian forces from Asia Minor and a push down to Antioch.

Diplomacy is usually so dumb in RTW that I love this chance to actually have a strategic alliance and get to fight together!

I almost feel inspired to make a Pontus guide that doesn't involve rushing Armenia in the first five turns.

Rome I Barbarian Invasion campaign, but starting at T1-T2?

Hello everyone, I have a question, I did not find such mod before, maybe you have, or you might have found a way to do this before.

I would really like to play Barbarian Invasion campaign, but I always wanted to play it with undeveloped settlements. Sort of like Original Rome campaign, starting with little buildings, slowly devlop the map.

Reason is.. I really like the factions and units, but don't enjoy starting essentially in late game for Rome

Rome I SPQR, Civil war, and 30 settlements

I want to ask experienced commanders: Does the Roman civil war start when you earn a lot of popularity among the plebs, and/or(?) when you have more than 30 captured cities? Just now, when I eliminated all the Roman families, and only the Senate remains (I am Scipii), I wonder if I should be afraid of an instant declaration of war from SOQR when I reach 30 cities?

Rome I Rome before Rome

A bit offtopic but just found this gem of a game and i wanted to share it with you all:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Centurion:_Defender_of_Rome

https://archive.org/details/msdos_Centurion_-_Defender_of_Rome_1990

Amazed at how they managed to pack it up in such a neat way back for the day and time - this is even before Shogun 1 !

Any thoughts?

Rome II Tactics against Romans

Started legendary campaign as macedon for a while now. Conquered macedonia, thracia, hellas, and is conquering asia. Athens is dead and i got sparta as satrapy.

I never really minded the west because I was too focused on Asia when suddenly Rome is slowly taking illyria and almost knocking at my doorstep. I have an alliance with ardieai but I'm pretty sure they'll get wiped out.

I've played as Rome most of the time and I know how annoyingly OP their melee infantry is. I am aware cavalry is the best counter for romans but I feel like it's not enough. Most of the time, my cavalries are occupied at dealing with bowmen or against other cavs to prevent flanking maneuvers. If i increase cavs and decrease the pike+spear/sword line, i might get overpowered by the romans

My economy is not that strong to support war on 2 full stack armies aat the western front while leading another 2 full stacked armies + 1 supporting army at the eastern front. The most i could do is just 1 fully stacked army against the romans praying no economic crisis occurs or I won't get flanked.

Oh, and I usually field (if i remember correctly) 3 archers, 4 pikemen, 8 hoplites/swordsmen(4 each flank, then cavs on the remaining slots. If you're also wondering, my strongest units are thorax pikemen, thessalian cavs and etc at the moment. I think that's level 3.

Should I change my army composition? I'm thinking 8 pikes (2 lines of 4 pikemen), 2 spearmen on each flanks, 2 archers, and cavs with high charge bonus like thessalian for the remaining.

Rome Remastered Why is my general bodyguard Hastati?

Post image
64 Upvotes

As per title, my Scipii general is a unit of Hastati (other general in army was fine). Even in the campaign map after the battle when I click on bodyguard details. Post marian reforms as well. I swear he wasn't earlier...

Anyone know what happened or seen this before?

Rome II Enemy always fights to the death

I have less than three hours in this game and just logged off of the Rise of the Republic campaign I was on after failing to break a single low-tier Etruscan swordsmen unit despite having them:
1) Attack my phalanx head on
2) Cornering them far away from the rest of the enemy
3) Repeatedly bashing their rear with Equites
4) Pelting them for the whole battle with Slingers
5) Eventually surrounding them with swordsmen after they killed all of my Equites
And even after all of that they fought to the death, taking out my Hoplites with it. This was on easy mode. Is this how this game is supposed to work? What am I doing wrong?

Rome Remastered Achievement hunting: Alexander

I've gotten most of the achievements at this point, and am working my way through the last 20 or so campaigns between RTW and BI (6 short and 6 long for RTW, a bit more in Barbarian Invasion). Which has got the completionist in me wondering about the possibility of getting them all. Which raises some challenges with Alexander.

I've done the Alexander campaign on M/M, without too much difficulty. However, I've never played with Very Hard settings, they genuinely just don't seem fun to me (if it was an AI improvement, I'd be down, but it seems to just be cheaty buffs that AI factions get.) And there's "A God Among Men" which is "Achieve victory in the Alexander Campaign on Very Hard mode." Does anyone know if this means just the campaign difficulty, or does it mean VH/VH? Because a VH/M Alexander campaign seems like it'd be a LOT more approachable than a VH/VH campaign.

(I know I'll have to do some historical battling on VH for "Rome Takes Notes" but there's videos online of people playing historical battles on very hard, that and simple repetition can help me figure out my strategy with that one.)

(Also, just as an aside, the other category of achievements that will be a challenge for me is the multiplayer ones, mainly because I don't really have anyone to play against. I'm also not particularly competitive - if there's anyone of a similar achievement hunting mindset who wants a partner to get the multiplayer achievements with, I'd be happy to work through the list with you so we can both clear them out. Or maybe there's someone willing to take pity on me?)

Rome Remastered Winning without civil war as Roman faction

Just had weirdest campaign as Brutii. First time it happened to me and i (almost) won without triggering civil war. Obviously i had to trigger it to conquer my 50th and final city which was Rome, but having had 49 cities there was no sight of other factions turning against me. Is this normal?

Rome Remastered Technical oddity: Siege battle load times

So...the game runs great for me in every circumstance except for loading siege battle maps. Which takes literally several minutes at least.

Has anyone else playing Rome Remastered encountered this kind of loading issue? Is there some video setting I should turn down/off that would help with this?

Rome II Help with pack file manager modding

I'm trying to learn to make my own custom units. I only want to change stats and their outfits using the Pack File Manager stuff. Usually I just edit ones from the workshop that already work. The one I'm making isn't working and I was hoping someone could help me fix it. I've tried using gpt and other AI but get so far I'm still going in circles. I'd appreciate any help, thanks.

Don't think I can post the file here so have to be sent somehow

Rome Remastered restoring removed traits in remaster

So I want to add back the removed "controversial" traits in remaster. Maybe someone already edited those in and can share files? I could not find the merged version myself online. I do not want any rebalance, just old vanilla traits.

I will merge them myself if I won't find anything but I hope someone already did this. Thanks.

Rome I Natural disasters - time and location are random or predictable?

I just lost my faction leader and most of a beautiful stack to an earthquake in Ionia.

Gonna roll back to an earlier save, but will this always happen in that location on that turn (227 BC summer)?

UPDATE: seems scripted. I rolled back a couple of turns, landed at Pergamum this time. Safely observed the quake rocking Sardis and Halicarnassus. Spies survived and I had no army units in either province.

Be safe out there!

Rome I Can I get some freaking bridge here please?

Between my army and the rebel army there is a small river. And I suppose that this is a diversion, or the Pontic pajama-builder was drunk when he designed this bridge...
