Looking for housing in Rovaniemi (Oct 16 – Feb 1)

Hello! My name is Claire, and I’m looking for a place to stay in Rovaniemi from October 16th until February 1st. I’ll be coming from the USA to work a seasonal job, but I also work part-time as an online teacher. Because I need to teach classes in the middle of the night (due to the time difference), the shared housing that my company provides isn’t an option, since they said it would disturb others.

I’m open to renting a hotel room, an apartment, or even just a private room for the duration of my stay. I don’t speak Finnish, but I do speak English and Chinese. If anyone knows of available places, local resources, or recommendations on where to look, I would really appreciate any help.

Thank you so much!

— Claire

Consider living in provided by company housing and working nights at coworking place. It is quite hard to find any living place for the winter season for reasonable price. Everyone will rent their places via airbnb, booking etc. for hundreds euros per night. In Rovaniemi we have for example Y-North coworking, their websitr says 420€ per month for basic membership which includes working place, 24/7 entrance, coffee and tea, showers and sauna, bike and whatever else.

That's really affordable and cheap.

I would strongly recommend taking the housing and finding a place to do your online classes. The housing situation is really bad during winter months to be honest. Airbnbs have basically ruined the rental market completely. Ynorth is one possibility and you can also ask for help from places like Business Lapland. If you still want to find an apartment, check pages like Vuokraovi and Facebook groups (like Vuokra-asunnot Rovaniemi). You will be competing against university students that are staying here long-term, so your chances are not the best.

I live here and I can’t even hire new employees because I don’t know where they would live. Not easy time.
