I’m a non E.U citizen travelling to Belgium. Am I allowed to bring cigarette cartons in my checked in luggage?

As the title says, I’m traveling to Belgium and I intend on taking with me 2 cartons of cigarettes with me, for personal use. I’m wondering if I could carry them in my checked in luggage. Thanks!

Your citizenship is irrelevant. You can carry them in checked luggage but you’re over the allowance which is 200.

I'd just add that you can bring more but you need to pay duty on them. So it usually doesn't make sense from a financial perspective, but if you want to bring something specialized, it is possible. I occasionally brought alcohol above the limit and declared it, when it was stuff not easy to get in Europe.

As I understand it, if you're traveling alone, you can bring a total of 200 for personal consumption. Above that and if customs stop you, you'll be paying duty on them. Have you checked the retail price in Belgium? Or use the opportunity to quit, saving you 100% of the cost..

If you mean that you’re travelling from outside the EU then the limit is 200. If you are travelling from a country within the EU then there is no limit as such but a guideline value of 800 above which the presumption will be that they are not for personal use.

And in any case carrying them in the checked luggage is fine.
