Purchasing checked 20kg bag online at booking or purchasing online after booking? (not at airport)

Hello everyone, my first post on here. Thank you for the input.

I have researched for this topic, but many of the posts relate to purchasing checked baggage at the airport.

My question relates to the price difference between buying a checked luggage at the time of booking, and one after booking but ONLINE (not at the airport) before the travel date.

I know I need to take a 20kg bag. From the basic fare of £28:

+£40.49 to upgrade to regular fare, which includes a 20kg bag and reserved seat

+£28.99 to add a 20kg bag.

Now, it seems that if one buys the basic fare, Ryanair will send emails with offers to upgrade, reserve a seat or add a bag. My question is, in your experience, will these offers be a better deal? I.e. cheaper than £28.99 for a 20kg bag? Or is it always cheaper if I just buy it right away?

Thank you.

Escort someone but not board the plane?

Hi all, long story short: passenger A wants passenger B to escort them to the gate helping with language, luggage and checking in so if passenger B buys a ticket, helps passenger A buy not actually board the plane and goes back home would that have any implications or as long as you bought a ticket it will be ok?

Discussion/Other Ryan Air keeps Priority Boarding passengers waiting forever in the concrete

It's the second time we book Ryan Air Priority and we have to wait at the Vienna Airport in this Semi-Outside Concrete/Metal Staircase for a long time with all our carry on luggage.

It's painfully loud, smells like gas and it's cold and windy. There is no toilet.

Last time we had to wait exactly at the same place in the blazing heat for about an hour.

Today we are waiting in the cold wind.

Ryan Air crew blames the Airport. What can we do to bring this to attention?

Question Compensation claim blocked?

Hi all,

Hope you can help out with this! My flight from Luton to Barcelona on 20 August was diverted to Alicante due to bad weather, after some time circling Barcelona. Aside from landing in completely the wrong city, we landed about 2h 40 mins “late”, at 00:18am local time. We weren’t offered accommodation or food (or vouchers). We were eventually told we were being put on a flight to Barcelona at 05:30am. So by the time we realised they weren’t offering us anywhere to sleep, it was too late to make our own arrangements (even for a couple of hours sleep).

Now when I go on their website to make a compensation claim for the flight, my hotel, and food, it says that I can’t make a claim because my flight “was not delayed on arrival more than 3 hours”. Which is true in theory, if not for the fact that it landed in the WRONG CITY.

Does anyone know the most effective or straightforward way to make the claims?

Many thanks for any help!

My cabin bag is 25 cm in width- will this be a problem?

I have a Corio2 American Tourister (so it's a hard case suitcase). The height is 55cm and width is 35 cm both of which fits RyanAir's cabin bag guidelines. But I just realized the breadth is 25 cm and my boarding pass says it needs to be 20 cms for Ryanair. Heading to the airport in 2 days - please help!! Can I get this through? I am flying domestic in spain

Cabin bag dimensions 55 x 40 x 20

Hey folks, it's my first time flying ryan air (brussels to Barcelona) and bag dimensions confuse me

On website the bag dimensions are 55 x 40 x 20. But it shows the height is excluding wheels. On mobile app it shows height includes wheels. Which is the correct option experience?

If not including wheels and its 1 size higher in any dimension, are they flexible? Or just be safe and buy check in?

Question Yet another backpack question...

I know there are ton of "will my backpack fit" questions, but I thought I'd throw down another just for fun.

Would like to travel with my Osprey Daylight Plus. The site measurements are 48H x 28W x 24D, but I think that's when it's fully packed? I don't intend to pack it completely, so I expect to be able to "squish" it a bit to fit into the sizer.

Do we think it will be an issue? Flying Vienna to Bologna, so if you have experience with RA staff at either airport, let me know.

I would rather not spend another 30-40 EUR on a backpack for a single trip, esp. since I don't fly a lot to begin with.

Thanks!

Use someone elses priority

Hi there! Me and my boyfriend are going away but he has to come back some days earlier. Is it possible for me to use his priority on his old ticket? Such a bummer to buy the priority for 25 euro and the ticket for 20…

Question Does Ryanair overbook flights?

Hello,

I'm looking for some clarification on whether Ryanair overbook their flights or not please. I found on their website, a document stating they never overbook but passengers may be denied boarding for various reasons. We were specifically told by Ryanair staff that the flight was overbooked and we were to be booked on another flight when space became available. We have a baby and I didn't think it would happen to us but the staff said it wasn't them and the computer chose the passengers. In total, 8 people were denied boarding with 'overbooking' as the reason.

The staff were not clear on whether we will be compsensated. Different people said different things. One person said we'd get €400, another said we'd have our flights refunded. Someone said they'd pay for a taxi to our original airport if the flight went elsewhere and another said we wouldn't. It's all very confusing.

Just wondered if anyone else has been in a similar position and what the process was? We managed to get on the later Ryanair flight to our original airport so less drama as that's where our car was so we are thankfully home safe and sound but I can't say it hasn't left a bad taste.

Discussion/Other Has anyone else been refused boarding?

My husband and a friend were traveling back home and the initial flight was delayed by 2 and a half hours. We got to our gate close to departure time but it was still boarding with people still queuing so we didn't think anything of it and my husband and I went to quickly refill water and our friend went straight on to the plane. When we got there they said boarding was closed although there were still people boarding. Our friend got on but not us. Same happened to a family next to us, the parents boarded but 2 of the adult kids were refused and we were all sent to get rebooked and had to pay 100£ each to get on the next flight.

Does anyone know why they can refuse boarding like that? And if there is anyway to get compensated??

The check-in maximum dimensions of 80cmx120cmx120cm - if it's a box that size it's fine, but what if it's a long rucksack placed on it's side?

Ryanair Passport and Visa upload

Hi, I will fly with Ryanair, as a national of a country that needs visa to Schengen Area, I need to upload my passport and visa. I do not reserve a seat and my flight is still next week and it always fails everytime I upload passport and visa, even from the web and trying from Android and Ios.

Is it because I do not reserve a seat? Is it true I can do this 24 hours to 2 hours before flight time?

Question Unable to attend flight

Hi all, as the title says, I won't be able to go on my flight booked for tomorrow as something came up. I don't want a refund or any changes to the booking, but should I contact Ryanair that I won't be travelling? I tried using the chat bot but it kept referring me to FAQs. I imagine that the phone lines are only open during office hours. I don't want everyone else's flight to be delayed if Ryanair do intercom calls for passengers checked in who haven't boarded (although it doesn't appear they do that).

Any help would be great.

cabin crew course date

Hi, in July I applied for a cabin crew position at Ryanair and today they contacted me with the training course dates. I already have a job for the next three months. Current dates for courses are: 30.09 (Krakow) and 14.10 (Budapest) Is there any possibility to ask for later course dates? Or do I need to apply again?

Anyone used the EXTRA ITEM SEAT option as an extra bag?

I've got a flight for €15. It's cheaper to buy an extra seat than to add a bag, but I realize the extra seat is usually for instruments and stuff like that. Has anyone used it to just bring an extra bag on board?

Flight Review Flight Review - FR1638 - East Midlands Airport to Berlin Brandenburg (Boeing 737-800)

Ryanair is Europe’s biggest low-cost airline, but how does it really stack up in 2025? I recently flew from East Midlands (EMA) to Berlin Brandenburg (BER) to see if Ryanair’s reputation for being no-frills and sometimes frustrating still holds—or if things have improved.

I documented the full experience onboard their Boeing 737-800 (EI-DCZ), including the seat, service, and navigating East Midlands Airport. Here’s a quick breakdown:

Flight Details:

• Route: EMA to BER
• Aircraft: Boeing 737-800
• Cabin: Economy
• Flight Time: 1h 43m
• Cost: £121.04 roundtrip (for two)

Overall, I cover everything from airport experience to in-flight service, including some quirks that only Ryanair can deliver. Was it as bad as its reputation suggests - or are we being a bit harsh? And although not included (can you imagine a world where Ryanair offered lounge access?!) I'll take you on a tour of the Escape Lounge at East Midlands Airport.

I'd love to hear your thoughts - especially if you’ve flown this route recently or have experience with Ryanair in 2025.

Hard case or soft to avoid the baggage-bonus hunter’s wrath.

To absolutely guarantee no extra charge for oversized cabin bags, is it better to get a hard case or soft? I’d imagine having a hard case and the manufacturer’s dimension listing to hand gives you a better chance….but from videos I’ve seen even that doesn’t seem to be any kind of guarantee, as it’s up to the staffs discretion even if the baggage checker proved them wrong.

Hong Kong passport requires a visa check?

Someone else posted this question a year ago but no responses. I have a HK passport and according to the passport nationality is Chinese. Now ryanair probably thinks I'm a China mainlander and not from Hong Kong so it asks for a visa check when I have tripled checked I do not need a visa for my travel. Is this normal? Will I need to pay check in fees for the passport and visa check in person?

Question French Air Traffic Control Strike Sept 18-19

We are booked on a flight from France to the UK on Froday 19th September, however I have seen in the news that the French ATC will be holding a strike 18 to the end of 19th Seprember.

Question is, we have booked car hire in the UK, if the flight is cancelled, can I claim off our travel insurance for both the flights and the car hire?

Was returning to the UK to watch our son run his first marathon!
