Pregonta Advice on travel dates
Ciao a tutti :)
I need some advice from this community. We travel usually in the first week of September to Sardegna (currently on the island).
Next year, the first week of September is not possible. Should we choose the last week (Fereogusto?) of August or second week of September? Area will be around Arbatax. The sea will definitely not cool down if we travel just one week later next year, i guess.
Right now there are still a lot of fellow tourists, but not crowded, at least at the beaches next to Arbatax.
What would you recommend?

I'd say September, august is more crowded and expensive, sea is still warm in September

So do you want to escape the crowd? It is most crowded last two weeks of August by any means … but living near Arbatax and considering it my favorite place … I‘d say if youngsters the free choice do 2nd September. All shops and restaurants will still be open, but you will have an easier time getting a table at Il Macellario or a seat on a boat trip.

No, actually the reason is a birthday to attend. We travelled last and this year end of August/beginning of September and it was very much ok regarding the crowds.
In the meantime we got more clarity when the birthday party will take place and we will arrive next year also end of August/beginning of September.
Do you happen to know if there are festivals around Arbatax between the 3rd and 7th of September in 2026?
I was a little bit shocked as on Wednesday (this very week) some people shot firework/firecrackers in the area of Tortoli/Arbatax.
Edit: Il Macellaio is not exactly on our list. We love other great food from Sardinia, but whatever floats your boat, right? Also we won‘t rent a boat, as one needs to stay on board. But the flight back to Germany was packed. So second week in September might be better overall - we‘ll give it a thought.
Actually it‘s planned to fly into Cagliari, explore the city and surrounding and heading then to Arbatax to the hotel we grown to love. Back home via Olbia as the flights work best with our schedule. Also, driving the Passo Ghenna Silana became a ritual - drove it 20 years ago for the first time and it still amazes me how beautiful it is.

I think 2nd week of September will be great. I used to always travel middle to end of September, and yes there were cloudy days, but warm evenings, beach time, less tourists and everything is still open. The intense heat of Ferragosto can be stressful, especially with the whole of Italy on the beach at the same time!!
Fingers crossed the weather will be as great next year as it is forecast to be this year.
