Pregonta Planning a holiday in Sardinia

Hello,

Me and my wife ar planning a 7-10 days holiday somewhere in Europe for next year and we would love to visit Sardinia. We already visited Roma and Napoli in Italy, but now we would like to just relax at the beach.

Can you please give us some tips about where to land with the plane, where to stay, what beaches to see?

We do not have a car and we can not rent either, as we are new to driving and without experience. So we would love to stay in a place that is close to a beach with normal sand and beautiful water. Or maybe there are “all inclusive” accommodations that offer local food and transportation to the beach everyday? For a fair cost?

Thank you very much!

I saw that Spiaggia Maria Pia is really close to the city center (Alghero). Would it be a good option?

A few years ago i visited my aunt in Sicily (Centuripe, near Catania) and we went to the countryside where they had a big garden with oranges and stuff, like in the movies. My aunt died of cancer a few years ago and her lover from back then found someone else. I would like to relive something similar, to find similar places … This was in 2009. Then in 2010 i visited her again, but at her in laws’ house in San Salvatore di Fitalia (near Messina) and there was a mountain scenery with hills etc and at half an hour distance by car, there was Capo d’Orlando. I would also love something similar ..

Decent option, but, you could hop a taxi maybe a bus and head towards Spiaggia di Mugoni, not far from Algerho and really really nice, you may find something like you are looking for that way, or if you can take a drive up north towards Stintino.

Wow. Mugoni looks lovely. Also Stintino, but much farther away 😊

Look up Neptune’s grotto, very cool place, just past Mugoni as well, I think can also catch a boat from Algerho there as well, then work your way back from there past Mugoni

If you’re planning to see the south, it’s not a bad idea to start somewhere like Cagliari and then rent a car. What I’d recommend from personal experience is even if you feel like you want to do everything (which you’ll feel only from a few days here) is to try and not plan too ambitiously. Pick only a few spots. Especially along the coastline the roads are twistier, journeys are longer. It’s better to stick to one region such as just Costa Verde or maybe Cagliari + southern coast along SP71. You want to be able to stop and smell the roses, tbh with 10 days you could squeeze in a good amount.

I was thinking more about finding a nice place to stay, have all meals there and go to the beach everyday. Not necessarily visit the island itself. That is why i am looking for a place with a beach close-by.

Something like in “My brilliant friend”, like that house and beach in Ischia …

Highly recommend you go to the main page of this group and type “itinerary” in the search tab at the top of the page, and you will get a lot of posts asking for itinerary suggestions as well as a lot of informative replies from knowledgeable members of this group. You can also type search words like “Cagliari”, “Olbia” and “Alghero” which are where the three main airports are.

no need for apologies!!! i didn’t mean it in a rude way - there’s just a TON of info on here. i’d have a look and then ask specific questions once you have an idea of what sounds good to you. Sardinia is gorgeous, you’ll have a wonderful time! 😊

Cagliari is probably the best option since you won’t have a car. Algerho would be the next best option. Though the airport is much smaller.

Lots to do in both places and if you want to visit the nuraghe, which is one of the many things Sardinia is famous for, you can catch various tours they leave from Cagliari and will drive you out to them

Thank you!

Honestly, i would prefer staying at a “traditional” place where the hosts are locals who also prepare the food etc. I don’t know how similar (if similar) are people in Sardinia to the people in Sicilia. I loved those vibes in Sicilia with long tables in the house yard, with big orchards with fruits and stuff.

Maybe a place where the host actually lives.

That is what i seek 😁

If you want to relax away from the beach, there are plenty of resorts both in the north and south and in the center. If you want to visit the beaches, I recommend Stintino, Posada, Cagliari, and Alghero. If you want to visit the mountains you can go to Limbara or Gennargentu, where it snows in winter. Answer this comment if you want more specific info ;)
