"His". That's clearly a female use.
This sub is always good for some r/maledefaultism.

You're not wrong with the male defaultism, but "clearly a female user" kind of is defaultism as well.

So many people on this subreddit actually fail at telling if the person is making a joke, or if their target is even American.

What is up with the surge of "rage baiting" in last couple years. I know some people post controversial tweets for engagement etc
But what do people actually get out of rage baiting in comments? Where is the satisfaction in people saying stuff you knew they were gonna say? I know its for a reaction but honestly it's dumb as hell
Are people actually proud of themselves after it or something I just don't get it
13
u/jsg1764 9d ago
It's not a new thing. It was just called "trolling" before.
1
u/Beanslab 9d ago
I know, I asked what was with the massive surge of it because it seems a lot worse than trolling was.
People just randomly rage baiting to start political and social wars in comments and replies
Twitter is an absolute cesspool of it, stopped using it because 9 posts out of 10 are just engagement baits
2
u/faerakhasa 9d ago
I know, I asked what was with the massive surge of it because it seems a lot worse than trolling was.
It isn't. The problem is not the rise in trolling, it's the truly frightening fall in literacy. So more and more people every year read something like OP and react to it seriously, because they are unable do differentiate between an actual opinion, sarcasm or just plain trolling.

I was reading one of the Twitter satire accounts when it briefly broke character to talk about who's easiest to troll.
One side was the expected - trolling the maga crowd is like shooting fish in a barrel. But the other easy group to troll was the people who have made hating maga a big part of their identity. In some cases really educated people would take pretty obvious bait if it fit their narrative.
We get a lot of that here on this sub.

u/scruffyrosalie 🦘🇦🇺 9d ago
It's purely for engagement to get more sponsors and advertisers.
2
u/Beanslab 9d ago
Yeah like I say I know some people make posts which can actually earn them money, but comments do nothing. There is no point ragebaiting in a comment unless you are actually that bored and self loathing

Four like "r/woooosh". That is the oldest sub with the most members so most people consider it the original. There is even a r/wooooshwith4os to write for people who spell it wrong but I don't really care.

This is the equivalent of someone pointing out a bear trap and then stepping on it a few minutes later. Very clear ragebait.

My hot take is, that Germans are seen as unfunny by Americans cause Germans always assume the Americans are stupid enough to ask those questions in ernest.

u/billy66brown 9d ago
You can be 100% verify that it's a joke if you're a person with eyes and a brain and it's not your first day on earth.

u/CereBRO12121 9d ago
I am honestly so jealous of you not having experience the levels of dumb people I have. Best I recently had was someone from the states asking me if we had lots of sand in Germany because we are so close to Egypt.
I would have not put it beyond her to believe Germany a city/state of the country of Europe.

Although this is obvious rage bait. Rage bait is fucking stupid. There are plenty of people that legitimately hold your dumb rage bait opinion, how am I supposed to know if you're being for real or not. Just a waste of time and space.

I love when people admit they think it's fun to make people angry on purpose.
It makes it easier to never interact with them again. Pathetic fucking thing to enjoy doing.
Edit: It's like shitting your pants so other people will be disgusted by the smell.

You got baited, but it’s kind of ironic how all you have to do is mention that the US isn’t the best place in the world, and they’ll come out of the woodwork with five paragraphs of bullshit, angrier than me mum when I came home at 5am pissed, and woke her up telling the dog about my plan for world domination.

Tbf a lot of Europeans are really cringe with their "Europe is not a country!1!!".
People are so desperate to get their round of saying it that all it takes is a mention of Europe for them to spam the whole comment section, even if the person never talked of Europe as a country.

u/harryandmatilda 7d ago

To be fair, this notion of European "country" gives me less of a problem than other things usaians say about Europe. I mean, I know Europe is not a country nor is the EU a country but I do believe that as a Brit, I have more in common with a Frenchmen, a Spaniard or a German than I do with a usaian. So is it a country, no? But what could we call it? A community? A union? Mmm, I wonder.

We know what a joke is, all we have to do is listen to americans calling themselves Irish or Italian or whatever they can fantasize about. Nobody takes them serious. If we want to have a good laugh we just look at the way they dress.
