Discussion Looking for a reliable tool to completely uninstall unwanted software on Windows

I’ve noticed that sometimes uninstalling programs on Windows using the default uninstaller doesn’t fully remove all files or registry entries. This can leave leftover files and clutter the system over time.

I’m looking for tools or methods that help cleanly remove unwanted software without causing issues. I came across a software called Master Uninstaller which some users mentioned as helpful. Has anyone tried something similar? How effective was it for you? I’m interested in open-source or free tools, or any approach that works safely on Windows. Sharing your experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Discussion ATNotes by Ascher

I've been using ATNotes since the 1990s! It was written by Thomas Ascher for Windows and has not been updated since about 2000. I love this little bantam hen sized sticky notes and reminder app!

Does anybody know anything about Thomas Ascher or the history of the program?

Am I the only one left in the world using ATNotes?

Looking for software Unknown PES file question

I have several .pes files that I believe came from a hidden camera. Mediainfo says they are hvec files. I can not get anything to open them. I have limited knowledge of technology. I believe they may be coded and something said it's missing a header. Is it possible to send the meta data to someone and help me figure out what these are?

Looking for software is the free game pass included w/ some antivirus deals (norton 360) a legit perk or bait?

saw ads for antivirus and vpn bundles that include 1 year of xbox game pass for pc. my coworker actually bought norton 360 and got a code. is this a normal partnership or some sketchy promo? have you redeemed one and had it work long term? seems too good but maybe its just marketing.

Looking for software 10 years building products taught me this

Stop perfecting. Start shipping.

Your users don't give a damn about your clean code if your product sucks. I've watched brilliant engineers spend months building the "perfect" foundation for something nobody wanted.

Ship the ugly version. Get real feedback. Iterate fast.

The boring stuff that solves actual problems makes money. The "revolutionary" stuff usually doesn't.

What's the worst advice you've heard about building products?

Looking for software Closest thing to todoist/ticktick but private

I’m looking for a cross platform todo list app that closest to todoist and ticktick (android, iOS, windows, Mac) that cares about user privacy. Can be e2ee or I get to select where to store my data. Doesn’t have to be open source either.

Added bonus would be a life time subscription.

I currently use Lunatask but the lack of “smart lists” kills me.

Discussion Best model for transcribing videos?

I have a screen recording of a zoom meeting. When someone speaks, it can be visually seen who is speaking. I'd like to give the video to an ai model that can transcribe the video and note who says what by visually paying attention to who is speaking.

What model or method would be best for this to have the highest accuracy?

I've tried using gemini 2.5 pro in ai studio but for some reason it is terrible at this.

Discussion Trying to resolve A/V management: any issue or suggestion for the following for managing photos/videos?

I create videos to upload to social media and I’m trying to resolve storage constantly being an issue.

NOTE: I have three external hard drives (HDD). I use two as a repositories for all of the photo/video files i.e. no files are kept permanently on a computer and one of these two HDDs is just a backup.

Up until now, I use an iPhone as a camera. I use a Mac to take off what I need. I have the photos on both mixed with family photos unfortunately. I have been lament to delete files wholesale as I didn’t perceive the ability to peruse the files as easily as on iPhone.

This weekend I have been working on this and my solution is to use image capture to download the files to the computer – as I have been doing. Then I put them on the two repositories with the second copy as a back up.

I load repository onto iPhotos on the mac (this seems slightly involved) to enable me to peruse as if on phone and I have digiKam on a more powerful PC that I use for editing.

I delete everything from the phone once imported to the backup HDD repository.

For workflow:

I think that ideally I:

  1. transfer files needed to the Mac from repo 1 using iPhotos to identify what I need (my videos are based around specific locations, so being able to peruse photos using a map is immensely helpful).
  2. After that or instead I could transfer directly to (I.e instead of to the Mac) a third HDD which I use as the workig external for editing on the PC so that I don’t fill up the storage on the PC.
  3. I make a copy of the files created onto the repositories as I make progess on basically a daily basis.

Looking for software What are the best email clients that don't remove email notification from an event in Google Calendar? Maybe free for 1,2,or 3 accounts or cheap.

Can someone tell me this?

Something that's available on both Windows 11 and Mac, or different apps for Windows or Mac.

Microsoft Outlook removes or messes up email notifications so I'm thinking I shouldn't use that. Thank you.

Looking for software Screensaver program?

I need a Screensaver program for windows 10 that blanks the screen or can play video on loop. The built in Screensaver on windows 10/11 can't be 'awoken' by system automation, which my setup currently uses. If there is a simple program that works as screen saver while running, I can add it to my automation and simply close the program when I need the screen to 'wake up'. Thanks in advance for any assistance :)

Looking for software Image Viewer Program That Allows Images to be Bookmarked.

I'm currently in a pickle on my end. I'm trying to track down a great image viewer program that will allow me to put bookmarks or indicators on images that I can sort into a separate folder without going through my folders tediously. I've had no luck finding the right program so far. I tried BandiView and was able to use the bookmark feature, but whenever I opened up the folder, it would not show up with any of the images I bookmarked. Microsoft Photos is no good since that can be unresponsive at times, especially when I delete a handful of duplicates and would often just bring me back to the beginning of the folder.

Any recommendations and suggestions would be extremely helpful as I've been dealing with this issue for over a week now.

Looking for software I need help/advice

I am a solo “non” tech founder that has been working on the same project for 8 months. I have been attempting to make a large scale web app with many complex features but my site is NO WHERE near ready for production.

I am not a coder/dev.

I am a visionary and I have an unlimited amount of mental energy to dump into a purposeful project.

I am great at envisioning systems that can give value to many people and parties.

I also have lived in a rural farm town of 1300 my whole life. This has made a huge void in me that craves and desires more purposeful conversations, objectives, and goals.

I am made to do great things way bigger than myself and I am unsure how to go about it. I have no connections regarding tech people or any wealth.

What do you all recommend?

I want to be a visionary of a huge team to create projects that are huge and will fulfill my missing pieces.

Any responses are highly appreciated!

Software support Brand new laptop stuttering and lagging

Thumbnail gallery
0 Upvotes

Hey guys, I had bought a new laptop 3 days ago. Everything seemed fine, however i tried playing Minecraft and after closing the game, or tabbing out of the game, the whole pc lags and stutters.

For example, the whole or half the screen goes blacks, programs start flashing, everything is lagging, half the screen turn blue, the screen turns white, many many different actions.

As far as i know, it only happens when playing minecraft, however i havent tried many other programs.

I checked the CPU, GPU and MEMORY usage, however everything seems okay in my eyes but not sure, no special background processes, updated drivers, I reinstalled minecraft and also the drivers.

Some important information: - the laptop didnt come with windows, so I installed it myself (ofc bought it from unofficial website) - i moved some minecraft files from my old laptop to this one, but i removed them already

When idle or on google: CPU is low, memory is 50%, GPU is low When playing minecraft: CPU low, memory 80%, GPU 100%

I think the problem is bad or corrupted windows but i dont really know.

I couldn't attach a video but i've attached few screenshots from a video i've recorded. (Sorry its so bad, i was trying to solve the issue while recording)

Thank you for any help, will be much appreciated.

Release ViCalc 4.0 [Release] – Open-Source Touch-typing Calculator with Calculation History (Python)

Hi everyone,

I’d like to share the new release of my project: ViCalc 4.0.

ViCalc is a touch typing calculator with calculation history, written in Python 3 and released under the MIT open-source license.

The very first version of ViCalc was released back in 2003 – and after many years of continuous improvements, version 4.0 is finally here.

Features & Usage

  • Fully optimized for keyboard input (but also works with mouse if preferred)
  • Keeps a calculation history for easy reference
  • Lightweight, fast, and flexible

Who is it for?

ViCalc is especially handy for software developers who often encode mathematical models in code and need a quick, minimal, and flexible calculator at hand.

Get Involved

👉 Source code & download: https://github.com/Kudaschov/ViCalc
👉 Feedback, issues, and pull requests are always welcome!

Maybe ViCalc will turn out to be a useful everyday tool for some of you. I’d love to hear your feedback, suggestions, or just see you try it out.

Cheers,
Vitali Kudaschov

Looking for software Transferring MP3 files to USB error

MP3 can be played on pc. When copying, the first two files copied to USB can be played, but the next file copied doesn't play. Message said files may be unsupported or corrupted. Both MP3 file sizes on pc and USB remains the same, hence I think no signs of corrupted file. I've formatted the USB to FAT32 twice and results are still the same. Tried adjusting bit rate to 128, thought it makes any difference, but no. Currently, USB only stores two mp3 files and nothing else, since the next file copied wouldn't play. I don't think storage is an issue. Is it because my USB is faulty?

Looking for software What’s one underrated free tool you use every day?

Hey everyone,

I’ve been trying to cut down on my software costs and realized some free tools out there are genuinely as good (or better) than their paid counterparts. For example, I’ve been using Obsidian for note-taking instead of paying for Notion, and honestly, I love it.

Curious what others are using, what’s one free piece of software that you think more people should know about?

Other How do video Watermark removal Tools work?

So I have a video and most online websites allow for it to be seamlessly completely removed. I would like to know how that works cause I cant understand how thats possible. I however failed to find a open source or free to download alternative with the same purpose. Most I found on github just distort the watermark which I very much understand how that works.

Looking for software Software to between switch monitor profiles

I use the same PC on two different rooms, each having their own monitors and audio device.

What software allows me to create profiles for each room and use a keyboard shortcut to switch between them?

I used to use Monitor Profile Switcher https://sourceforge.net/projects/monitorswitcher/ which does exactly what I need for monitors, but does not switch audio and is no longer maintained.

Looking for software best Software to Organize a personal eBook Library on MacOS and IOS?

I currently have a collection of approximately 3,600 books in EPUB and PDF formats. I’m looking to organize them more effectively by genre and sub-genre, in a hierarchical structure that reflects their relationships. For example:

History
--------Modern
----------------MENA
----------------------Iran

My goal is to be able to navigate my library intuitively and locate books quickly. Beyond basic categorization, I would like the software to support rich metadata features, such as author, publication date, region, series, or any other relevant tags. so that searching and filtering across the entire collection is efficient and precise.

Any guidance or recommendations would be greatly appreciated, thank you in advance.
