If I remember correctly (I say that because right now I'm watching it in German so translations are going to be difficult, and I also have a bad memory), it's from earlier in Season 1. I'm unsure of which episode, but I know that it happened after he tried and failed to kidnap aang for the first time, and he went to go see Commander Zhao.
Commander Zhao asks Zuko and Iroh about the damage on their ship.
Zuko: "You'll never believed what happened... Tell him, uncle."
Iron: "we ran into an earth kingdom(?) Ship"
Zuko: (awkwardly) "That's right...!"
I heard the word "Accident" in there but idk where or who said it.
