Painting on Metal

My roommate is giving me her metal bed frame, its just from Amazon, but I want to paint it black but have never spray painted metal before. I’m wondering if anyone can give me any advice— do I need to sand it prior to painting/if so what grit? Or can I just use a primer or even go in straight with paint, and what kind of paint would be best for this? thank you!
