Question Will glitter save these metallic tiger stripes?

Post image

I can't seem to get my distance, speed, and overlap technique down and have ended up with tiger stripes of varying sheens in my gold metallic door project (Rust-Oleum Metallic, Champagne Bronze). I did several coats last week, and am now re-coating again to try to even it out, but it keeps happening. I've gone through 6 cans already and have about 1.5 left, giving me one more coat available today.

The next stage is to coat heavily with gold glitter (Krylon Glitter Blast). I'm wondering if the glitter will obscure my tiger stripes, or whether they will still show through. Once I start the glitter there's no turning back so I don't want to move on prematurely, but at the same time I really need to get this door back on my bedroom and morale is declining.

What do y'all think? Will the glitter save me or do I need to buy more paint and keep trying to fix it?

I'm spraying from about 12 inches away, doing 3-inch passes at about 1 ft per second. I tried doing a "fog coat" of 16 inches last week but that resulted in lots of dry powder on the door afterwards, which I took to mean I was spraying from too far away.

What do you mean by 3 inch passes? Just overlap 50% of your previous spray

Yep, I was just trying to quantify for specifics. It sprays about 6" wide, and I'm overlapping 50%
