Crank removal

Someone on here recommended heating the case to remove the crank, I heated this one until it glowed/some metal started drooping and then the case split in half when I tried to remove it... IDK standard hammer seemed to work better..

Starter Pawls in String Trimmer

I bought an FS70R two or three years ago. I use it to do very light work. I use it to clean up a 0.15 acre property once a week after mowing the grass. I bought it because I've always heard Stihl equipment is the best. Now, for the second time, I am having to replace the pawls in the starter cup. I am not hard on this equipment and I can't imagine what I am doing wrong. Has anyone else ever had this experience?

Coil help. Anyone?

Post image
5 Upvotes

Hi all. Got a 460 that won’t start or give me a spark. I’m getting 1.8 across the plug and the earth circuit seems to be okay. Anyone know if this is enough? My 131 generates 1.6 and works fine. Starting to pull my hair out! Cheers

Stihl FS40 no spark arrestor?

Post image
3 Upvotes

So quick backstory, my FS40 strimmer worked fine until it refused to start. Took the carburettor apart to find a split in one of the diaphragms. Changed the whole carburettor and it starts fine until I put full revs on then it cuts out. Google tells me it could be a clogged spark arrestor. Only one issue….mine doesn’t have one. It doesn’t even have a hole for the screw that holds the arrestor in place. I know you can’t really see from the photo but it has the little indent for the screw just no hole and a slot for the spark arrestor.

I’m trying to find out if this model is supposed to have one or is the space for filter just there as other models use the same parts.

Stihl customer service are not open over the weekend so trying to get an answer before then ideally.

211C starts and dies with throttle

A neighbor asked for me to have a look at their neglected ms211c. Opened it up and immediately smelled bad gas, so dumped it out and put fresh in. Checked the spark plug and air filter, all is good. Starts up great now BUT it will only start if I push the carb shutter all the way closed…and as soon as I give it throttle, it dies. This thing was VERY dirty when I first got it on my bench, could it be that it’s gummed up? Where should I start? I notice that the top trigger, safety, doesn’t spring back up very smoothly. So I am thinking that there may be dirt in ALL the nooks on this.

Also, my saws are older and do not have the “H L LA” adjustments so I am very unfamiliar with how to manipulate those. I haven’t touched them yet, could that be the issue?

HS60av hedge trimmer fuel tank removal?

I have a very old HS60av hedge trimmer that still runs but is desperate need of a new fuel tank. I just started taking it apart to get to the 3 bolts connecting tank from the inside. Wow ! I’m lost now! Do I need to pull the whole crankshaft assembly out just to get to tank screws? Am I’m missing something here. Seems ridiculous to get a fuel tank off… lol appreciate any help or thoughts before I keep going.. if any one has experience with these vintage trimmers.

Fs130 not running without choke on

I have an fs130 and it starts in one pull and runs great with the choke on about half as soon as you take it off it starts running terrible and when you grab the throttle it dies. Is this a carb issue or spark arrestor or valves maybe? Just curious if anyone has had the same experience.

How much to ask for a 038 Mag II?

Not trying to sell here just locally. Saw runs great cleaned up pretty good, has a 24" bar and 3 chains. I just never use it. What would you sell it for? I want to make sure I'm not asking to much and not enough. I'm in NW New Mexico if that helps

Br380 help

Post image
3 Upvotes

Have a br380 that won’t start. Piston and cylinder look decent, replaced the carb, has spark and a new plug. Shoots mist or smoke out of the exhaust when I crank it and occasionally backfires so hard that smoke comes out of the intake too, but it won’t start. Kind of at a loss right now.

Ignition coil?

Hi all, anyone any good with ignition issues? My FS460 was running okay, then stopped and now won’t start. Can’t seem to get spark? Does this mean the coil is dead? Cheers

Because i don't find alot of parts which isn't very unusual considering it's age. I hope there are still oem parts that can be bought for it. And if not which non oem parts are good for it? All help and info is welcome

Bagging issues on the right side of the mower. Leaves a strip of grass that doesn’t get bagged. Anything I should change or fix?

Cutting on height 3. Slowing down helps but doesn’t fix.

Backpack blowers

Hey everyone, im in the market for a backpack blower. Im looking at an 800 x (for homeowner use). I've heard that the cylinder wall cracks in the area of the valve cover on some of them, muffler tears away and muffler bolts get stuck in the side of the engine. Not to mention the valve adjustment that needs done (although for homeowner use, it'd take a lot of hours before this needed to be done). My question is, are these sporadic issues or something that occurs more often. This would be my second stihl purchase If I decide on one, I also own a bg56c. Thanks for any replies.

Strimmer and leaf blower?

Looking to invest in both a leaf blower and a strimmer with a max budget of £500 combined for professional use.

I'd be interested to hear what you all would consider?

I went to change out the spark plug for a little bit of maintenance on my Bg86c blower and and I had trouble getting the boot off because this metal piece was there. I've never encountered this before so I don't know if its broken or not. It still runs without that metal piece though. Maybe it's just me but the blower feels a touch weaker idk. Is this a necessary piece? Do I need to replace the boot?

stihl MS170 chokes at high revs when hot- Question

Question - what I should do if my MS 170 chokes and high speed and has no power when it wams up ?

So far i have done:

- changed fuel line and filter , air filter.

- rebuild carburetor - cleand and replaced all membranes ( I tried brand-new carburetor but in was not original and did not work)

- I have checked compression (lifting on the starter rope) and it is Ok.

when engine is cold - it is ok but after heat-up -> fails.

When I adjusted carb : screw counterclockwise ( decreased speed) it helps a little bit - at least power go up and i have impression that i smell less gasoline from exhaust (comparing to normal adjusted screew ) so i suspect that there is to much fuel supplied to engine, bit also it can be to little air.

Is there any procedure to diagnose problem?

I have beed told that i should have change spark plug - but i do not have problem with engine starting.

Oil problem Ms 261c

Hi guys, So I recently had an MS261C in for service. I changed what I needed to change, membranes, spark plug and all the stuff…

And when I restarted the machine, I noticed that the oil was no longer coming out of the guide.

I then did everything : cleaning the oil tank, changing the oil pump (it was no longer pumping), cleaning the oil pipe to the guide, cleaning the tank-pump pipe, putting new guide on and even a new chain... But nothing to do, the oil is not coming out... The pump has been tested (unplugged) 3 times (it is new and works perfectly) and the pipes are unclogged, the pump adjustment screw is set to "max opening".

So here I am, asking for a little help because I am completely stuck there…

Wood Boss 028AV sprocket

Post image
6 Upvotes

Hey guys. I have a 028av that I just got running. The chain would run when idling so I pulled the sprocket cover…

Found the inner plastic oiler gear completely melted to the cover.

Saw came with an Oregon 29917X sprocket on it.

I’m kinda guessing this was the wrong sprocket for this saw? Seems like there were multiple versions of this saw with the oiler gear and sprocket…

So I’m in need of the inner oiler gear which I can only find to match with the oem star sprocket.

What would you guys do? Go back to the original type sprocket or try to sort out one of these rim sprockets?

I’m also curious if anyone knows if a sprocket for an 038 would interchange with the 028? I found an oiler, gears and rim sprocket setup on eBay for about $25.
