General discussion goon platoon question
hi so as a gen z sum 41 fan who was honestly born in the wrong generation, I am wondering what was it like to be part of the old Goon Platoon? what were the upsides? what were the down sides?

They had an AMA-type deal on their website where members could submit questions. I recall Cone answering a couple questions I submitted and I was thrilled at the time, thought it was really cool. You also got a Goon Platoon shirt. I wonder if that is still at my parent’s house somewhere…I’m sure there were other perks but this is what I remember.
On a less positive note, I remember being disappointed at the end of it. I’m pretty sure when they announced it was ending, they said every member would be getting a poster signed by the band. I was bummed when the poster showed up and instead of being signed, they just listed all of the Goon Platoon members names or usernames in a bulleted list at the bottom. I’d love to learn all these years later if anyone actually got a signed poster or recalls same as me. I could be misremembering, and in fairness to the band, maybe was not their decision.

Yes! That’s got to be it. I do recall you had to sign up to receive the poster, probably had to include how you wanted your name in an online form. But I could have sworn at one point they also said the band would sign it…Maybe I’m making this up.

maybe that was said on the official goon platoon part of the site which unfortunaly I can't get into, or another reason could be that way back machine doesn't have that post

It was cool to have the merch and exclusive access to the Q&A, but apart from that, I would not recommend it today. Or at least not how it was around 2005-2006.
