I've had a Surface Laptop 2 since 2018. It's the most reliable computer I have ever owned. I've used it for school and work, as well as gaming and other personal use throughout different periods of my life with only two minor issues:
- WiFi connectivity: it frequently would not automatically connect to the network and sometimes cannot even find my network for awhile. No other device in my home has this issue.
- Slow clock: the clock can end up 5-10 minutes behind within a few months of very light use. I usually have to go in and manually update or reset something to get it caught back up.
I recently reset it to factory settings when I thought I was going to give it to a family member and that seems to have corrected the WiFi issue but the clock quickly fell behind again.
I also have a Surface Laptop Studio 2 that I bought for school last year when I was going to be doing some more heavy use. The form factor was excellent for what I needed it for at the time. But I have since left school, and find myself picking up my 2018 laptop when I need to do something instead for the following reasons:
- the battery life is abysmal
- it overheats easily
- it's very heavy
- I've gotten the blue screen randomly a few times (in the middle of browsing, it just forced a shutdown and restarted but then ran fine after that)
Other than the blue screen, these are all downsides I was aware of before purchasing, but they didn't cause any issues since I was exclusively using it while sitting at a desk doing homework and taking notes.
Since I almost never use the SLS2 anymore, I was considering selling. I love it, but it's not really ideal for casual use (sitting on the couch and browsing/gaming for long periods). I moved everything back over to my 2018 laptop, but then started thinking about selling them both and upgrading to a newer model. Is there anything a newer model has that would be worth upgrading? Is the clock issue on my SL2 possibly indicative of a bigger problem? I've even considered a MacBook again because I don't need to run Excel anymore and heard great things about the M4 chips. Also, any advice on selling on FB marketplace/trading in through Microsoft or BestBuy or something similar?
