Hotel advice?
I'm surprising my wife for her 40th birthday and doing four nights in Moorea and six nights in Bora bora. We are on a bit of a budget and I am looking at hotel hibiscus and hotel Kaveka. For those who know the area, which would you pick? I want something beachfront, fairly close to restaurants, activities, etc, without the huge cost of the OWBs. Suggestions are appreciated!
Update: I've booked hotel Fenua mata'i'oa for Moorea and maitai polynesia bora bora. Would love to do a nigh5 or two in the OWB on BB but hard to justify paying minimum of triple per night. Will keep an eye out for a deal though. Thanks everyone for your help!

If you are on a budget, I would recommend an Airbnb on Moorea. And use the saved $$$ to try to do 2-3 nights in an OWB in bora bora, and Airbnb in bora bora as well for the remaining nights.
OWB is worth more in my opinion than a standard hotel room in Bora Bora

We stayed at the Hotel Maitai on Bora Bora and I thought it was very inexpensive for what it was. The hotel itself is half beachfront, half the other side of a tiny road. Great snorkeling right off the beach, two grocery stores a 3-4 minute walk in either direction, restaurants and Matiera beach a 5 minute walk to the right.

Its a beautiful island, you wont go wrong. I just stayed at Manava. Look into it if it fits for you. Dont do OW there but its very well located for a lot of what you want. Good luck🍀

Manava with a garden pool bungalow is extremely nice, budget friendly, and walking distance to shops and dining.

Yes! Its a great bang for your buck! There are more luxury places but we enjoyed it here especially since BB is pricier.

I can only speak to Moorea. Id say No to kaveka. Its a beautiful view but not a swimmable beach and the staff is unfriendly. Rooms ok. Far from everything. Personally Id do less time and stay in sofitel or hiltons cheapest rooms because these are the best beaches and snorkeling is sub par in a lot of other spots.
Otherwise you are driving to public beach (Temae is connected to Sofitel and best, there arent many public beaches). Remember you must have a car in Moorea. Its non negotiable
If you absolutely need to go budget (and Id argue that you should absolutely splurge for a few days) look at Green Lodge and Linareva or an air b n b. Manava is a step up but the reef is deep so Sofitel and Hilton are a HUGE step up from Manava and very worth it. Ive stayed in a half dozen spots on Moorea and visited many others.

Check out Linareva on Mo’orea. It was magical there. Just came back a few weeks ago.

We stayed at Hotel Hibiscus and really liked it. Comfortable rooms and great location. Recommend Casa Vincenzo next door for pizza, Restaurant Tiahura and O2 Coco all within walking distance. Make reservations in advance!

Hotel Royal was beach front with pool, dancers, bar, and it was like 250$ a night

I stayed at Kaveka and it was nice, but simple. We did swim at the hotel, but there are better places and we kind of felt odd because other people weren't doing it. There is a restaurant that's ok, but that's about it. I'm not sure if I'd recommend it. We also stayed one night at the Sofitel, which was phenomenal and EXPENSIVE. I think the mix was worth it, but I'd stay 2 nights at a good hotel. We also went to a public beach by taxi that had great snorkeling right off shore.

Been to both island but not those hotels.
Rent a car in Moorea. You don’t need one in BB. Go to Rudy’s for dinner in Moorea. One of the best dinners we’ve ever had.
Idk if you’re on fb- but there’s plenty of BB/tahiti traveling groups where they can maybe answer your questions too.
Good luck!
