Can someone explain this to me?

In The train depot in season 2 episode 9, Derek is taking to the betas

Derek:there is a price you pay for this kind of power. You get the ability to heal, but tonight you are going to want to kill anything you can find.

Erica: good thing I had my period last week then.

Can someone make this dialogue make sense? I do not get the connection with Erica's period.

Well, in werewolf lore, it is known that female werewolves don't only have the unquenchable blood lust they have on a full moon, but they also feel the same during their periods because of the increase of hormones. Peter alludes to this when he's talking to Stiles after he bites Lydia. 😲😲

no, bro. Peter made an joke about this in season 1 and then erica does it too in season 2. that's not canon. Malia, Cora and Erica never really shown nothing about that to be considered lore

Not specifically in the show itself, but it's starting to be a more modern considered idea in general werewolf lore because of the connection to the emotional imbalances that can come a women's monthly cycle like the emotional imbalances that all werewolves face on a full moon. So I wasn't specifically saying it's lore in the show, but it has been used as a point in movies such as Ginger Snaps
