I’ll never financially recover from this scenic

Reminds me of when I phoned the insurance company and told them a deer ran out in front of me to be asked “did you get the other driver’s insurance details?”

„We need the license plate“

Honestly, I sometimes wonder why people (through insurances) should pay for something as expensive as this. Sure there should be the ability to drive expensive cars on the road but multi-million dollar cars? Seems like a risk that shouldn‘t have to be insured by the average person.

u/Immediate_Banana_216 6h ago

The problem with your argument is that someone is being left out of pocket for someone else's mistake.

Why should i be left out of pocket because you hit my car with yours, just because my car is worth a particular amount? What happens if instead of hitting my expensive car, you hit my average house, should i also be penalised for that, what happens if you hit something far more expensive like parking on a railway line and derailing an express train or 2, why should someone else pay for your mistakes?

One of the most expensive car insurance claims was around £30million when a driver fell asleep at the wheel, drove down an embankment and derailed an express train and killed multiple people. Who pays those expenses? If you want to read up about this, google "Selby Rail Crash" or read the wikipedia - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Selby_rail_crash

Insurances have limits (at least in Germany) but cars aren't particular expensive when it comes to damages, including this car. The expensive accidents involve severely injured people with long hospital stay and recovery, enviroment damages and damage done to infrastructure, like bridges. that can quickly cost six or seven figure numbers (or even 8 figures like the linked example).

Also, there are very few cars that are that expensive. Insurances regulate hundreds of normal priced car damages for every car this price range, so this isn't making a large bump in the total costs.

1

u/katze_sonne 3h ago

I am aware of that and I think that damage to people and property like bridges or other property (like houses nearby) should definitely be insured to a very very high limit. I am even aware of the particular incidence you mentioned, it's the perfect example why insurance limits are often that high.

However, I feel like damage to other cars, though, should be handled differently. Cars can get into accidents, that happens. Don't make your multi-million dollar car the problem of other road users. I guess you are right, though with the fact that they basically average out and won't impose a large cost bump in insurance premium.

Thinking about it, I still think there's a problem with the current system. Cars and thus their repairs get more and more expensive. People buy bigger and more expensive cars. This also makes simple liability insurance less and less affordable for people that don't have the money. I don't know if there can't be a more... social system.

2

u/geeiamback 2h ago

I know where you are coming from. This system does currently work because there are few marvelous expensive cars.

While cars get more expensive to repair and even a deer may result in expensive damage to the sensor array in the bumper if hit, said sensor array do protect the car and other traffic participants from damages in other situations. There's also an incentive by insurances to buy new and more expensive cars as these have lower rates as they are less likely to get into (expensive) accidents. While this might be true it also fucks people without money not only when seeking a car but also insuring it in the long term. Yeah... this isn't social at all.

0

u/katze_sonne 2h ago

Yeah, exactly. I don't really have a solution for this, but it basically was a shower thought of mine. It just seems a little unfair. And leads to all kinds of other problems, e.g. if you look at the US where this problem is way worse already, you suddenly get tons of uninsured drivers who just don't care anymore.

Valid point about the active safety features! Even though this shifts the liability even more to other "cheaper cars" - they have to pay for damage they cause to the more expensive cars, while the more expensive cars are less likely to be at fault.

Because if you don’t want a regulated market, you’re gonna get it.

3

u/katze_sonne 7h ago

Well, true. But I think there should always be limits at a level that is insane. Like the no speed limit in Germany. It makes no sense not at least have one at 250 km/h. No speed limit means being allowed to go 400 km/h - that’s just stupid.

2

u/ponyboy3 4h ago

I’m so glad you don’t make the regulations.

3

u/MoreYayoPlease 7h ago

That is generally called a rule, and the action of creating new rules is called regulation. Sorry for being condescendjng but i really care about rules and fairness.

1

u/slim2crazy 6h ago

No speed limit means being allowed to go at light speed, hyptothetically

1

u/katze_sonne 3h ago

Exactly, which is stupid. I love how people who are like "I don't want a speed limit" suddenly are shocked about people "driving 350 on the Autobahn". Well, that's exactly the definition of "no speed limit". Why are they surprised about it?

Historically, there was no speed limit because technology "imposed" a speed limit. Now it's way above anything reasonable.

I like that version better than the one from the picture. Bad redesign.

u/Greenman8907 17h ago

Did a little motorcycle shoot out of it at least?

75

u/FriendlyAutist 16h ago

It definitely self destructed afterwards.

Driver became a bat and flew away

Hate to be that guy but this is actually the Batman: Arkham Knight Batmobile

u/the-dogsox 17h ago

No news on what happened to the Scenic?

55

u/DixonLyrax 16h ago

It drove away, largely unharmed. ( probably )

Unfortunately, there isn’t much information about what happened to the Batmobile after the accident. There is a bit of confusion based on what actually happened. Some folks say it was a low-speed accident at a stop sign. The photo above is not the result of such an accident. The photos show a pretty decimated front end on the Batmobile, which doesn’t add up.

That Looks Expensive: Lamborghini Gallardo-Based Batmobile Crash

18

u/laughingashley 15h ago

Just because a car is a screen replica doesn't mean it's actually durable at all

6

u/Bobbyanalogpdx 11h ago

Well sure, but it is a car. And the wheel doesn’t usually just come off of the axel in a low speed collision.

2

u/geeiamback 6h ago

Look at the image before the crash, the wheel is completely unprotected, similar to a formula 1 car. F1 car tires are specially attached the the frame by tethers now, but they used to fly around during crashes a lot.

3

u/Ooh_bees 10h ago

They don't, because they are protected by the front crash bar etc. It seems that the front wheel and suspension is the crash structure of that poor thing. And then there is just four bolts connecting the wheel to the chassis I think (upper and lower ball joint, steering arm, stabilizer). And Lamborghini derived, they are aluminum and as light as possible. My money is on a pretty slow, low energy crash. That thing isn't built like a factory made car.

1

u/FrogmanKouki 7h ago

Fair enough but judging by the suspension and wheel/tire damage this was a significant impact. It's hard to have that amount of damage to a wheel and tire without major force.

1

u/BlueEyesWhiteSliver 10h ago

I think the front end is a little bit more than 10% destroyed lol

Mat Armstrong stare intensified.

1

He needs more Lambos. I'm sure he'll find the brand new second hand parts for this on eBay or in Poland.

1

u/Spinal2000 6h ago

I'm really disappointed. I thought a batmobil is more durable.

1

u/Chemical_Peach_5500 5h ago

A BAT Lamformer

1

u/thatgerhard 5h ago

It's was clearly just busy turning into a motorcycle when it froze

1

u/bluris 4h ago

And this is why we will not have flying cars. It would be - at first at least - the plaything of idiot rich kids who will wreck it into a building, putting families into danger.

1

u/Snuddud 3h ago

I wanna see now the picture of the scenic

1

u/dragonmermaid4 3h ago

Well deserved. You shouldn't be owning a Batmobile if it can't drive through scores of vehicles without so much as a dent

1

u/ecwagner01 2h ago

Doesn't this turn into a motorcycle after it is wrecked?

1

u/LongjumpingEnd2198 1h ago

You can buff that right out.

1

u/TheDarkClaw 27m ago

Is this the Batman vs Superman dawn of justice Batmobile or the Arkham knight Batmobile?

1

u/MememeSama 15h ago

Rich idiots always get to drive destroy the best cars

1

u/Justah-Spektator 16h ago

Like it ran into a Peterbilt based Bane-mobile

1

u/stick004 13h ago

Good riddance…

-11

u/bobspuds 17h ago

Why would you be driving 1.4 million quid on a public road? Tough titty! the car looked like shit anyway

-1

Nothing a bit of paint and a fresh coat of wax cant fix!

-1

u/PretendFisherman1999 16h ago
