Fire truck loses control on ice. Arnold, MO.
Rock Community pumper loses control responding to call in Arnold, Missouri. 1/22/24 The engineer operating the apparatus did an amazing job at controlling the slide the best he could. The blue car did get hit, but he managed to completely avoid the house.
We’re currently in a weather advisory and have ice all over the roads.

He didn’t hit anything??? That was the most incredible drift entry to a driveway I’ve ever seen.

u/Ap0l0geticAppl3 Jan 22 '24
He hit the blue car. If you listen to the audio you can hear the impact.

u/MrZombified Jan 22 '24
"The blue car did get hit, but he managed to completely avoid the house"
Or, you can read the description under the video.

u/MacrosInHisSleep Jan 22 '24
There's also another video circulating of a different camera angle. You can see the blue car getting hit in that, but it's also a bit obscured tbh

Yup just watched with the audio on. And looked mindfully at the available parking spots haha

u/OogieBoogiez Jan 22 '24
Fun fact: they were responding to the blue Chevy that they hit.

u/TaserBalls Jan 23 '24
"Hello, 911? My blue Tahoe is stuck in the middle of the street, it may be blocking emergency access and the tow truck won't come out "

He also rolled into a house, there is a slightly longer video from a different angle.
2
u/Ap0l0geticAppl3 Jan 22 '24
I’ve seen the other angle and he doesn’t hit the house.
0
u/moonlight2920 Jan 22 '24
He slightly hits it. You can see it rebound in this video right as it goes past the corner.

I always think it’s unrealistic at first in a movie when people are screaming and panicking and doing everything else other than something useful or waiting to do something useful. Then I remember videos like this.

u/skdowksnzal Jan 22 '24
It really reads as a person who doesn't even attempt to fix things or solve problems. Just sitting on the side lines, making a fuss, expecting someone else to do the work. It really seems like a thing of privelege to me.
I know I'll be downvoted for this, but here goes: I dont think its a coincidence that its always white women who scream their lungs out instead of helping.

u/benny_boy Jan 22 '24
I will downvote you for bringing gender and race in to this for no reason (especially considering you have no idea what race the woman filming is) but I am curious as to how/why you have come to this conclusion?
3
u/skdowksnzal Jan 23 '24
Thats fair, and technically we don’t know the gender either.
The point was less about this individual and more about the kinds of people who stand back doing nothing screaming bloody murder.
In my own experience, people who do nothing and scream for others to do something invariably are people of some kind of privilege who expect others to do the work for them.
These are typically Karen types.

Women are usually never good in high stress situations. Evolution
10
u/BinSnozzzy Jan 22 '24
I dont get it? Childbirth probably one of the most stressful situations there is because of evolution. Id say people arent good in high stress situations because life is pretty fuckin easy right now.
0
u/ctennessen Jan 22 '24
Childbirth usually ( at least in first world countries) happens in a controlled environment

Can we just take a sec and applaud the driver here. He knew exactly what was going to happen his run into the grass gave the tail end enough room to swing around without hitting anything on the first swing. If he had tried to keep it all on the road it likely would have plowed through both driveways and possibly into the porch where the bystanders are. Considering all the available targets only hitting one car is pretty damn good.

Scary as fuck. I’ve sat in the jump seat of a fire truck responding to a call when we had this happen. Auto chains only work when the tire is turning. We got lucky, swung a 180 and ended up going back down the icy road.
We would take the trucks to an open parking lot after the first snow fall and practice driving the snow. Doing donuts in a fire truck is very exciting.

Not too far from there myself.
Did some improvised ice dancing and accidental donuts on the way to drop off my utility payment.
My own fault for waiting till the due date to pay it.

Those fire trucks aren't cheap either.
17
u/Cleanbadroom Jan 22 '24
Probably sustained very little damage. The bumpers on fire trucks are designed to be used to push vehicles out of the way.

Do ladder trucks have a water tank, or do they rely on a tender?
6
u/defigravity42 Jan 22 '24
Ladder trucks do not always come w a pump engine on-board; those that do are typically referred to as Quints.
3
u/Ap0l0geticAppl3 Jan 22 '24
That’s a good question. We didn’t have a ladder truck in my distrct so I’m not sure. I’d like to think they at least have 1500 gal on board since the ladder uses an LDH
3
u/Impressive_Change593 Jan 23 '24
actually no. city engines will typically have only 500 gallons of water (and the deck gun flows 500 GPM at minimum, more like 1,000-1,500 GPM). they use LDH to connect to a hydrant though for those high flow rates. this being a ladder truck there is a decent chance it doesn't have any water though it might be a quint which would have water but still definitely a maximum of 500 gallons. even my more rural station the one engine has only 600 gallons and the other 750 gallons. we do have a 3,000 gallon tanker though (most places they're called tenders and tankers have wings but we're east coast)

u/EnderHeeler Jan 23 '24
I’ve only worked 3 ladder trucks in my carrier and all 3 had water (quints). But they only had enough water to fill the waterway to the bucket. Worthless without a water source or pumper feeding it.

The filming is sh!t and the commentary is drivel. How many times can people repeat, “Oh My God!?” and "holy sh!t!" And the guy in the background sounds like Hudson from the movie Aliens : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tsIEHsA9fKc

this is the coolest thing I've ever seen. people saying the driver got lucky have no idea what they're talking about. he clearly felt the loss of control from the ice and made an emergency left onto the dirt to try to get some traction and slow down. he managed to pull into a driveway with no major damage to anything. ice is extremely dangerous especially for large trucks.

I forgot which state it was during the 2021 snowstorm in Texas. Some of these states have singular units of salters and plows.
I think Arkansas or Mississippi had TWO total snow removal apparatus.
They should spend some of that defense money on that. You know so they can get to work.
