I mean yes, but I think ultimately he regrets it. Or if not now, he will later, as he will realize that what he did was just completely unnecessary. It won't bring his family back and it just crushed the hope of hundreds, and also their chance of survival. He seems like he would care about that and not have that Jasper-style apathy/distance.
