Holy hell I cannot wait for season 4!!!

And what the fuck is up with Aaravos? One fucked up evil conniving creepy caterpillar thing. I sense a betrayal coming though. Viren will be killed and claudia will join the good guys and try to learn magic the right way

seen this coming since the caterpillar grew.

aaravos is going to emerge from the cocoon. what im asking myself now is what claudia sacrificed to revive viren.

its at the very least going to be a life for a life. either human or elf. she probably killed someone, or maybe finally offed raylas parents by consuming their coins to use their energy.

there are only two reasons we were shown the bag of coins just prior to that. either setting up for a happy ending, that rayla learns of them and the main cast fees them at the end of the show so they can be reunited at the end, or to show us what claudia used as fuel and make that knowledge sting deeper for rayla.

with this show, it could go either way.

I feel like Aaravos coming out of the cocoon as himself would be the obvious, logical thing to assume, but imagine if he just turns into some bizarre, gigantic butterfly instead lol.

Also I assume that even if he DOES come out of the cocoon in his regular body, it won't actually be him, but more like a perfect replica that he controls via the same magic he used to control the grub. Presumably the real him will stay trapped in the mirror until whatever spell keeps him inside is properly broken.

Dont forget that the cube thing with the runes is called the key of aaravos. It's going to come into play to let him out or something.

u/Arlort Nov 24 '19

I don't think so, he was trapped by the dragon king, and we see that the only one going into his lair is Viren and he wouldn't leave it at the lodge

I think it's more likely connected to either dark magic or accessing arcana different from your own. We know Aaravos mastered all 6 arcana and it's fair to assume he "gifted" dark magic to humans.

By using the "key" you can see what kind of arcana is connected to objects, depending on its use it could either be used to immedesimate with the objects and animals connected to the arcane and learn to understand it, in a way "unlocking" it

On the darker tone understanding what magic stems from something is probably useful in devising dark magic spells

In King Harrows letter to Callum he states that the key has been passed down for generations, once belonged to Aaravos, and that it unlocks something "of great power" in Xadia. At this point it could unlock any number of things, but shows and movies tend to foreshadow things, and if the cube is a key, and the mirror is a prison, then I think it's possible. In any event, I really don't think Aaravos is just going to pop out of the cocoon. It feels like there needs to be more to it.

I also doubt he'll pop out of the cocoon, if it has to be a literal key then I guess it would need all six arcana to be present at the same time to open up, otherwise it just doesn't make sense for it to show the arcana nearby

Oh wow I didn’t even make the connection but that makes total sense. Aavaros was the great one who gave the humans dark magic and that’s what he was imprisoned for. Kinda reminds me of Prometheus the Greek god who gave humans fire and was chained up for all eternity by Zeus as a punishment (plus had an eagle pick out his eyes every day but the similarities stop here lol).

actually it’s his liver getting eaten (gotta be a true legend amongst college students I guess)

Oh my you’re right

u/HolyTurd Nov 27 '19

It was fucking Aizen the whole time again!

Who’s to say this elf-form that we’ve been seeing this entire time is his actual true body? What if it’s what he’s choosing to display himself as to Viren? What if....Aaravos is actually a dragon, or something similar? Which is why it took the Dragon King himself to imprison him?

u/Wolf6120 Am I your little bug pal? Nov 24 '19

Hmm, that's an interesting thought, but I feel like the evidence doesn't really point to it. For one thing, he first appeared in the mirror in this form, as a Startouch Elf, even before he knew Viren was observing him from the other side. And while we could maybe say he was just pretending not to know that Viren was there, there's also the fact that we saw his hand during the opening narration of the first episode, and it was a Startouch Elf hand. Also the book Viren found in the library had a depiction of Aaravos, again in his elf form.

u/Whiskeyjacks_Fiddle Nov 24 '19

Possibly. I’m thinking he’s trapped in that form, but his true form is more of a weird, parasitic insect-dragon. I think he’s the one that created Dark magic, gave it to the human mage we see in the flashback with the Dragon King. Thunder finds out it was him, binds him to a more non-threatening form, and imprisoned him in the mirror realm (or wherever he is).

You can see the sacrifice's boots for a moment

38

u/mr_arm Nov 22 '19

Are they boots that are specific to anyone, or just “yup these are definitely the boots of a recently-sacrificed-to-big-dark-magic person”

48

u/keirarot Nov 22 '19

They belong for the human soldier for sure and we can suppose that behind the stone there is the rest of the dead person. They're also in the cave so I doubt that anyone had died there. The last proof is that - why would they put them there if they weren't to be shown?

why would they put them there if they weren't to be shown?

Damn it Dave! Stop leaving random corpses in our scenes!

Clean up the models if you're not using them. Don't just leave them lying around.

Any chance it was that cowardly councilor? That'd be great.

Edit: turns out he's in chains.

6

u/Khieverbooks Nov 23 '19

I just hope it’s not Marco. He’s become one of my favorite side characters

7

u/Raonair Star Nov 23 '19

Nah, an elf girl helped him up, they should be cuddling right now.

Humans Long ago: Screw the Elves!

Humans now: No. Screw the Elves...

u/terog Nov 22 '19

I can see Aavaros eating or absorbing Viren when he hatched out.

u/[deleted] Nov 23 '19

I have a weird theroy that Aaravos is actually a dragon. A black aracnum dragon who took pity on humans and tried to teach them dark magic. But he was stripped of his true self. Hince the Dragon Headed caterpillar.

3

u/Siegberg Nov 23 '19 edited Nov 24 '19

He also could have been a human who modified His own body to become elve like as we already have Seen with him changing humans. He the end point of what DARK Magic can produce.

6

u/trombonepick Nov 24 '19

Combining both theories. Maybe he's going to have a more dragon-like shape to combat the other dragons later? lol

40

u/trombonepick Nov 24 '19

I think Claudia is going to team up with Aaravos and become a Big Bad. The Morgana Le Fay to Ezran's King Arthur.

12

u/IndependentMacaroon Dark Magic Nov 25 '19

...and Callum's Merlin?

6

u/trombonepick Nov 25 '19

I think so.

3

u/Mediocre_Policy Soren Nov 24 '19

That would be epic to watch

7

u/StartsWithA Nov 24 '19

I hope Aaravos does emerge in butterfly form. I've waiting for Aaravos to betray Viren since he sent that little caterpillar to talk to Viren the first time. I think he's just waiting for Viren to become powerful enough. He was looking at Viren like he was a snack when Viren was taking Zim's power. Aaravos is going to pull an Orochimaru and get that body. Then Aaravos will transfer all the power to his old body once he frees himself from prison.

Poor Claudia I wonder how many lives were sacrificed to get her father back. What is the cost of a life in this world? Did she have give some of her life to him?

4

u/Mediocre_Policy Soren Nov 24 '19

Not sure how much she sacrificed to bring him back but look at her hair! It's half white now. Someone stop her before she's too far gone
