Was anyone else just a little worried that they might kill Rayla off? I know this ain’t Game of Thrones but with how they just flat out gave us amazing moments that the fans wanted with her and and Callum getting together part of me was worried they’d be cruel and kill her off as part of Callum’s character development, it just seemed almost too good to be true. So glad they didn’t though, I know it might have been a silly concern but as I said, things almost seemed too good for it to be safe.

I mean... a little, but then I realized the whole wing arms thing and Callum saying "I am the wing!" more or less confirmed that was foreshadowing and he could master it in a moment of release and acceptance. That sort of thing.

Can callum also do other magic he did moon magic to see what happen in the past

I think he will eventually be able to, but I think in that particular case it was because he crushed the moon opal. Similar to how before he learned the sky arcanum, he needed the primal stone to perform sky magic

Maybe because he crush the opal he got the connection to the moon

i think the moon opal was a neccessary spell component. didnt lujanne crush an opal too when she performed that same spell?

its not 100% clear, but he might have already understood the moon arcanum, which allowed him to use that spell.

it just wasnt as spectacular this time, since he gave himself time and didnt have a dark magic induced coma as a catalyst.

No, she didn't. So I believe you only need 'components' if you don't have a connection to the arcanum. Primal stones are unique in that they aren't destroyed when used, but otherwise the opal seems to function in the same way.

youre correct. i rewatched the scene and she didnt use up an opal. for some reason i remember her crushing a similar amulet.

You're probably thinking of Runaan using his moon opal to cast that tree illusion.

If he can understand the arcanum for the moon, it's not impossible. The potential for humans to learn multiple disciplines is there if they're willing to be open to them.

And he has Aaravos' artifact, and Harrow believed that Callum could one day achieve similar feats.

i dont think harrow truly knew what it was. i wonder if the artifact is the key to the mirror.

or better yet, the true key is probably inside the cube and the only way to open it, is to activate all 6 sides of it simultaneously which only a mage of aaravos caliber could do.

Or multiple mages working together.

Technically true but I somehow doubt that’s the answer

Don't forget that he needed to use the moon opal as a Catalyst ala storm stone. He could definitly learn it given training, but he doesn't have the arcana yet.

Deus Ex Machina is when something random comes out of nowhere to resolve a problem. Callum understanding the Sky Arcanum beforehand and attempting to copy the spell he needed to do is not Deus Ex Machina. It is established how he can achieve the spell, he just needs to work on the form and mindset.

Deus Ex Machina is not established beforehand and arrives suddenly without explanation to resolve a plot point. Sometimes there is semi foreshadowing, even a bit of exposition concerning why something occurs, but usually it comes out of nowhere. Callum knows the spell, he knows how to activate it. Calling it Deus ex Machina would require the spell to never have been referenced and even for us to not see him trying it. Like, all he says is "I love you" and then sprouts wings suddenly. That would be Deus Ex Machina.
