I was hoping the Skywing mage would teach callum a few battle spells and Callum could have helped more on the battlefield Or in general, there was a lack of mage support on the Xadian side, while Claudia is flinging giant dark orbs and dark dome shields

I am continually frustrated and happy with how restrained they’ve been with Callum’s growth as a mage. I want to see super saiyan Callum, but I’m glad they’re holding off. I would have been unsurprised to see him to have super zap-beams melting lava-baddies; i was pleasantly surprised to see his magic still appropriately leveled, and big magic only coming from big moments of great importance.

Fighters start off strong early, mages scale with levels. Basic DnD stuff.

Need a few seasons of him doing magic missile to make him being OP feel earned in the later seasons. Kind've like how Katara went from beginner -> intermediate in S1 and by S3 she's bending people's blood.

I think it's also a good contrast to see him vs. dark magic and how when you aren't cheating to get ahead, it just takes more time.

Idk man have you played 5e at all? Fighters scale hard as fuck they can attack like ten times in one turn at 20th level.

It's all about what you want to accomplish with your character in 5e. I'm playing a high level fighter in a 5e game right now, and can be absolutely devastating to a single target. The wizard in our party can't do quite as much reliable and repeatable damage to a single target as I can, especially at higher levels with monsters having enormous DEX and WIS saves, but damn if he can't clear the room and give me plenty of room to work.

Not that that has a lot to contribute to TDP, I just wanted to share :)

That's because 4E and 5E were both designed with making fighters scale well as a primary design goal. In 3E and earlier, if you couldn't cast spells, you were basically useless at high levels.

I'm sorry but when I saw the phrase "big magic", all I could think of is like "Big magic doesn't want you to know humans can use primal magic too! wake up!"

Wake up sheeple! Big Magic just wants to keep the humans down!

I mean, I get why he only got mage wings at the end of the episode. Just with what he has now, he's powerful enough that he could have solo'd most of the threats and obstacles Team Zym faced in the last three seasons if he had these powers all along.

They had to wait until the last moment of the season, otherwise he'd be pretty overpowered.
