I mean they've been pretty clear that to do magic in this world you at least need to know the symbols and words of a spell, they've been pretty clear on which ones callum hve learned:

He can make a gust of air, make a lightning bolt, make a bubble of air for people to breathe in and now he can sprout wings. Unless i forget anything that's it.

He's finally found a sky elf though, so hopefully next season he can learn some more spells.

He also knows the moon magic spacial memory illusion and the dark magic chains to snakes spell.
