Watched an episode randomly and the set/costumes looks off
I’ve never seen this show before but I know it’s set in the past but nothing looked right. It just looked like modern day people cosplaying as people in the past, set also looked weird. The cassettes on the wall just looked like a collector or hobbyist put it there (in modern time).
That 70’s show for example and Cruel Summer (2021 show) felt more genuine. Anyone else agree? It really took me out when I caught it on cable and I won’t be back to watch more because everything just didn’t seem authentic.

You were probably watching a Season 8, 9 or 10 episode. I don’t even consider it canon.

You were definitely watching one of the last crappier seasons. Almost anything after season 5 is bunk with the occasional gem sprinkled in. Season 10 and “Carmen” should just be burnt and forgotten.

It was also shot in 16:9 4K w/ 5.1 with similar color grading, angling, etc as other shows of this time (2010s network show.) They used very similar setups for Fresh off the Boat (set in the 90s) and Blackish (set in 2010s), so while the sets and costumes might be pretty good sometimes, they all have the same 2010s filming style.
Btw I was born mid 90s, so the only era of those I am directly familiar with is the 2010s. ABC shows all have a sheen to them that aligns with the others I've noticed

Probably an episode after Goldberg left as a show runner. Even the real life Beverly would tweet her issues with the show after he left. 😂

The later seasons yes. Seasons 1-3 were pretty good I thought.
