Nightwing Lightning Rounds
HOW THE TOURNEY WORKS
This tournament operates by the same rules as the Great Debate Season 10. However, there are a couple of fundamental changes.
OOTs will be considered on an individual judge basis, similar to how it's done in the Clash of Titans.
Participants will be asked to submit 3 picks. The tourney format will be 2v2s, barring a 3v3 for the final round.
Instead of having users respond sequentially, responses in this tournament will be simultaneous. What this entails is that participants will DM their responses to the tourney organizer, /u/EmbraceAllDeath within a 24 hour period from the start of the round. At that point in time, the tourney organizer will post all responses, at which point another 24 hour window opens in which the same thing happens. The tourney organizer, at their discretion, can post 2 responses from a particular match up before the deadline to speed up the tourney
Tourney Format
- Round 1 will have essentially randomized matchups against users, with no real stigma against asking for a specific opponent
- Round 2 will then have winners of round 1 face winners of round 1 and losers do likewise, round 3 will continue with winners of round 2 vs winners, etc.
- Two losses then remove you from the tournament
The final round will be a 3v3.
General
- This is a double elimination tournament. Each entrant will have to lose or drop twice to be removed from the tournament. This is also a Round Robin tournament, in which winners of the rounds face each other, and losers face each other, randomized. Before each round, you will choose two of the three characters you're running.
- Rounds will last 48 hours, the first two rounds cannot be extended.
- Responses are limited to 10k characters each, two main responses and then a conclusion-response that won't be considered for new points.
- Response 1 (10k)/Response A (10k)/Response 2 (10k)/Response B (10k)/Conclusion 1 (7.5k)/Conclusion A (7.5k). Intros are optional.
- OOT requests and defenses are limited to 3.5k characters as a separate comment from your responses.
- Combatants start 12 meters apart unless otherwise stated.
- The character you are using must have existed in the medium at one point.
- You cannot run a character whose story you have contributed to (George Lucas can't run Luke Skywalker)
- Any scaling you intend to be using should be accessible through a sign up post.
- Your character must be in-tier on the Unlikely-Likely victory metric.
- If your opponent is running a character you believe to be OOT, you may submit an OOT request, judged separately from the debate itself. You start with one OOT request, and if you fail with a request, 1k characters are deducted from your response limit.
- How declaring a character out of tier works is that in tribunal, a character will need to be in-tier in every arena, but for each round, you can only call them OOT for that arena. For example - If a plant character is out of tier in the jungle, but you're in a volcano, it doesn't matter.

Mik's Response 1
Quickdraw
The moment the fight begins Shooter will headshot both of his opposition simultaneously before anything else of substance happens.
Shooter's quickdraw puts his hand moving 24x faster than 5 thugs' to be .012 s at a lowball. Combined with the sniper feat seen unedited here and broken down more thoroughly here, Shooter is capable of precise shots in infinitesimal timeframes and demonstrably faster than characters who provably move faster than bullets.
Siryn's quickdraw thrives off its simplicity, requiring only that she open her mouth to unleash a supersonic attack. Siryn's scream fills an entire city street as it tosses over cars and everyone standing in her way. She frequently scatters several people at once while deafening them or incapacitates crowds of people at once.
Librarian provides a melee offense/defense that would follow Siryn/Shooter's ranged and retreat attacks. Given Librarian's own bullet speed movement he continues pressing a speed advantage.
Power
Shooter's bullets are more powerful than a high powered rifle, shattering the bullet of one midair before destroying the opposing rifle itself. Shooter's bullets even tear through Strode's muscles which were capable of stopping several bullets. Neither opponent has any resistance to piercing attacks as powerful as Shooter's, and each shot can blow them apart so thoroughly their ability to ignore the pain is moot given the incapacitating levels of damage dealt.
Siryn's attacks are even deadlier on the water fall stage. Given the AoE sweeping the arena in front of her and the fact that she can bowl over giant metal opponents, blasts giant men through walls, and scatters people away even if the're not directly in front of her blast we're looking at an almost inevitable BFR where the opposition has no recovery options.
If for whatever reason that is not enough, she has other more esoteric effects. One is the deafening effect created by her scream, as the opposition would grip their ears as they're thrown around, instinctively drop their weapons and cover their ears, an effect with enough AoE to encompass an entire hospital. Failing previous options Siryn can hypnotize the enemy with her voice. She convinces an entire militia to lay down their weapons, and she convinces people to do even what they're adamantly opposed to doing.
Librarian is perhaps the hardest to put down given extreme durability, regeneration, and and sheer strength. Anatomically it doesn't matter where you pierce him and he recovers from even seemingly lethal injuries in mere moments. He'll take wall busting hits while delivering ones of his own. His punches warp thick metal and crumple it, firmly exceeding the opposition's durability.
Even on the side of esoterics, Librarian is capable of paralyzing foes with nerve locks that involve just hitting a precise spot on the neck or tapping their forehead. Not only do the opposition lack sheer power to contend with Librarian, they have no feats resisting or fighting against such esoteric attacks.
Senses/Defenses
My team's attacks will land and the opposition's will not.
Shooter can predict movements and ricochet shots to hit fleeing targets and Shooter will know where the opposition will evade or block and how to adjust his aim. This is aided by super senses that transcend sight. He sensed 2 people entering a building several floors above him the moment they walked in the door, senses mere associations people have, and fighting while blind is routine for Method users like Shooter because they have super hearing and smell on top of everything else. His shots will absolutely land.
Librarian shares Shooter's super sense of hearing given he is also a Method user, and believes that fighting by hearing and smell are low level abilities Method users should learn early on.
Meanwhile, Siryn is the only one present who can fly of her own power, she frequently carries people and while attacking and can even do so while carrying multiple passengers, so she and Shooter are both capable of flying during the match to increase their ranged advantage.
Given the sheer size of her initial blast in the fight sweeping across the whole stage and the fact it's doubtless her scream will hit the competition -- but flight also allows she and Shooter a characteristic retreat to avoid a melee at all costs.
Note also that Siryn quickly shifts from attacks to defensive barriers if the need arises and Siryn's ability to shape and control sonics compounds with her bullet speed reactions as well, allowing her scream to establish a barrier between herself and fired bullets while they are still midair
The opposition sucks
You can physically see how slow and weak Lady is in the same scene my opponent will cite for her speed. She's moving at human speeds and knocked silly by someone with human strength.
Gein literally doesn't have durability outside of being burnt by fire and my opponent was entirely unable to quantify anything about his speed in our previous match to make it meaningful.
Ivy's best durability feat is being incapacitated by a bunch of rocks. For comparison, Librarian's fight with Strode eventually brought far more rubble down around them and Librarian immediately walked out of the wreckage. Considering that Ivy also couldn't dodge the falling rubble, it's clear she's neither fast enough not strong enough to survive this fight any better than her useless companions.
Conclusion
The opposition's ability to stay competition is so speculative, built on cherry picking feats, and making numerous overly convenient assumptions that there's worth addressing in them until my opponent puts propositions forward. Examine his characters with the level of scrutiny he applies to mine and I have little doubt they completel fall to pieces.
Little of what my opponent says will matter as his team loses a quickdraw and a ranged fight. They get shot and swept off the stage with no options for recovery. Especially considering the stunning power of Siryn's scream and the effective distraction of Librarian's melee, the opposition getting hit is inevitable and their landing a hit is unlikely.
